CHAPTER FOURTEEN I WAS GOING to miss my parents. Thanks to my mother’s culinary skills, the holiday weekend had been filled with warmth and amazing food. They arrived shortly after I returned from Seattle, after a long drive from their home in California, and we spent the rest of the day running all over Portland, trying to find ingredients at the last minute since my week had been spent working up north. My mother was thrilled at all of the more natural, fresh food options, and she filled my fridge to overflowing.
