Chapter 1

990 Words
Elena, I walked into my apartment kicking my shoes off. Throwing my keys at the small dish on the small table sitting to the right of the door. I can smell that booze from here. No doubt that Derek has been drinking. I have been trying to find a way to kick his ass to the curb. But our relationship is a bit toxic. When he drinks he gets violent. And I know violent. I grew up around the mafia. I've seen blood, I've seen tough men being on the verge of wetting their pants in fear. None of this bothers me. But none of the men in the Tacone family ever dared to hurt a woman. You hurt a woman and you're as good as dead. Derek has no such morals. He once sent me to the hospital with six cracked ribs and a broken nose. Now I would never tell Anthony Tacone aka Tony. He's now the leader of his father's empire, He's head of the Mafia, every girl's dream, Tall Dark and handsome. You could almost get lost in those dark eyes of his. He is also CEO of the Ace casino, the one in Vegas, because it puts the one in New York to shame, because it is a hotel and casino. I walked toward the living room, seeing Derek seated in the recliner with a can of beer in his hand. I'm in too deep with him. He told me if I ever break it off with him, he'll make me regret it. I sigh. I don't have the energy to deal with him right now. I walk back to the bedroom where I take my clothes off and change. After my parents died, I got their flower shop. It sat for a long time until I turned eighteen. And since I'm the only one working, it's getting hard to keep up with the bills. After getting changed into some plaid pajama pants and a tank top. I walked back out to the living room to see Derek standing with his arms crossed. "Where the hell have you been?" He asked with his arms crossed. God I know this is going to get ugly fast. "I was working." I say as I walked to the kitchen for a drink. "Until midnight at a flower shop you were screwing someone. We'ren't you?!" He yells "No I wasn't. I had to clean the shop." I say "Don't you f*****g lie to me!" He grabs me by the throat, cutting off my oxygen. "I am not f*****g lying to you! You ass hole!!" I yell kicking him in the balls. The one thing I learned from the Tacone's never show fear or back down from a fight. He back hands me that I land of the floor. "You f*****g b***h!" He yells kicking me in the ribs. I groan and try to fight back. I grab his other leg and he falls on the floor. I stand up, kicking him in the stomach and make a run for it, but he gabs me by the ankle that I fall to the floor. He rolls me on my back And straddles my waist, pinning my arms with his legs. I struggled to break free as he continued punching full force at my face. He is much bigger than me and stronger. I was finally able to break one arm free, seeing the frying pan on the floor from our struggle, grabbing it as he continued punching me in the face. I finally got a good grip and swung the frying pan as hard as I could upside his head, making him roll off of me. I swung again as he was on the floor and one more time to make sure he wasn't getting up. I spit on the floor next to him. "Serves you right ass hole." I said. I slipped on my shoes and grabbed my keys. Slamming the door, my vision was blurry from all the blood. Staggering as I walked down the streets of New York. My muscles ached, my head was pounding. Finally, I entered the emergency room. Getting stares from everyone in the room. I walked to the front desk. The nurse looked at me in shock and I'm sure it was not a pretty sight. "Umm I think I need to see a doctor." I slurred, having a hard time talking. The excruciating pain just from talking was unbearable. She looked panicked. She quickly dialed the phone "We need a doctor and a stretcher on Er 1 right now." She said. Not long after the call, nurses got a stretcher and a few doctors rushed in. "Here, lay down dear." The nurse says "Help her on the stretcher easy." The doctor says I could hardly make out what they were saying before I passed out. I wake up to monitors beeping. I looked around and I was still in the hospital. I am in severe pain. The Doctor walks in. He explained how they had to wire my jaw and that my jaw was shattered. That I had a broken nose and fractured cheek bone, and six cracked ribs. They had been administering pain killers. That If I needed anything, to call the nurse. So here I sit in the hospital. I knew who I had to call. I have used the Hospital phone. since I left my phone at home. I knew his number. I dialed and the phone range three times. when I heard his gruff voice on the other end of the line. "Hello?" He says I wanted to say something but I just couldn't find the words. "Anthony Tacone." He says again. Still remained silent. I finally hung up the phone. I couldn't bring myself to tell him what had happened. I sighed, I just couldn't bring myself to talk to him. To tell him where I was.
