CHAPTER 5Illagesh was a pleasant world with soaring mountains and rolling seas, thick forests and plains verdant beneath a G-type sun. Like Earth must have been at one time, mused Kevin as he stared through his hotel window. Natural and unspoiled, the air free of poison, the sunshine undimmed by smog. There would be seasons, he thought, snow in winter and frost, cool breezes from the sea and the warm, basking heat of summer. He inhaled and reluctantly turned from the window. His room was soft, clean and luxurious, a pleasant change from the one he had occupied at the depot while waiting ten days for the shuttle. But now he was finally here and rested, bathed and refreshed he was ready for work. At least, he told himself, the pretence of it. Tarvainen would expect a report and would know
