I woke up the next morning with my skin still feeling sensitized, the ghost of Chase’s grip lingering on my hips and the scent of him clinging to my sheets. For a while, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, wondering if I had just signed away my entire life for a bonus and a bit of adrenaline. I had called him a predator, and he had leaned into it, but there was something in the way he had looked at me before I left the office—something that didn't feel like a game. When I walked into the building at nine, I didn't go to my desk. I went straight to his door. I didn't knock; I just pushed it open and stepped inside. Chase was already there, dressed in a charcoal suit that made him look like the king of the city, staring at a monitor with a frown. He didn't look up immediately, but I saw his shoulders tense the second I entered the room. He knew it was me. "You're three minutes early," he said, finally turning his chair. His eyes swept over me, scanning my face and my body with a hunger that made my knees weak. "I told you to be ready, but I didn't expect you to be this eager." I walked toward him, my heels clicking on the floor, and stopped right in front of his desk. I didn't lean against it this time; I stood tall, looking him right in the eyes. "I'm not eager for the deal, Chase. I'm tired of the games. You told me I belong to you, but you treat me like a secret you're keeping until you get bored." Chase's expression shifted. The smug, controlling mask he always wore cracked, and for the first time, I saw something raw and desperate underneath. He stood up so abruptly that his chair rolled back and hit the wall. He didn't say a word as he rounded the desk and grabbed my waist, pulling me flush against him with a force that knocked the breath out of me. "You think this is a game?" he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "You think I spent the last few months pushing you and breaking you just because I was bored? I've watched every other man in this building look at you, Elara. I've seen the way they try to catch your eye in the elevator, the way they linger too long when you hand them a file. It nearly drove me insane." I gasped, my hands clutching his shoulders. "You're the one who made the rules. You're the one who said I was a plaything." "I lied," he snapped, his grip tightening on my hips, bruisingly hard. "I called you that because if I admitted what you actually are to me, I wouldn't be able to let you leave this office. I don't want a secretary, and I don't want a journalist. I want you. All of you. Every single part of you, every hour of every day. The thought of anyone else touching you, or you deciding that you've had enough of me and walking out that door, is the only thing that actually scares me." The confession hit me harder than any of his commands ever had. This wasn't about power or dominance; it was about a possessiveness so deep it was bordering on obsession. He wasn't trying to break me; he was trying to bind me to him so tightly that nothing could ever pull us apart. I reached up, cupping his face, my thumb brushing over his jawline. "Then stop pretending you don't care." Chase didn't need another invitation. He slammed his mouth onto mine, the kiss desperate and starving, as if he were trying to breathe me into his lungs. He lifted me up, my legs wrapping instinctively around his waist, and carried me back to the mahogany desk. He swept everything off it in one violent motion—files, tablets, and pens crashing to the floor—creating a space just for us. He ripped my skirt up, his hands frantic, and I felt the cool air hit my skin for only a second before he was there, filling the void. He entered me with one deep, punishing thrust that made me scream into his neck, my fingers digging into the muscles of his back. He wasn't being gentle, and he wasn't being careful; he was marking me, claiming me in a way that felt permanent. "You're mine," he groaned, his voice breaking as he hammered into me, his pace relentless and raw. "Tell me you're mine. Tell me you're never going anywhere." "I'm yours," I sobbed, arching my back, feeling the friction of his skin against mine, the sheer intensity of his need overwhelming everything else. "I'm yours, Chase. Please, don't stop." He groaned, a guttural sound of surrender, and drove himself deeper, his movements becoming faster and more erratic. I could feel the tension building, a coil of heat tightening in my gut until it finally snapped. I clamped my legs around him, shaking violently as my orgasm crashed over me, and a second later, he stiffened, his body shuddering as he poured himself into me, holding me so tight I felt like we were merging into one person. We stayed like that for a long time, our breathing heavy and synchronized, the silence of the office wrapping around us. He didn't pull away. He kept his forehead pressed against mine, his eyes locked on mine with an intensity that felt like a vow. "I'm not letting you go," he whispered, his voice steady now, devoid of the corporate coldness. "The deal is over, Elara. I don't want a contract. I want a life with you. I want you in my bed every morning and by my side every night. I don't care about the scandal or the rules. I just want you." I leaned back, looking at the man who had spent months terrorizing me and seducing me in equal measure. I knew he was arrogant, possessive, and completely insane, but as I looked at him, I realized I was exactly the same. I didn't want a normal relationship; I wanted this—this consuming, all-encompassing fire. "Fine," I whispered, a small smile playing on my lips. "But I'm still keeping the bonus." Chase let out a genuine laugh, the first one I had ever heard, and kissed me softly, a gesture of affection that felt more intimate than the s*x. He slid me off the desk and kept me tucked under his arm, leading me toward the window that overlooked the city. "Keep the money," he said, pulling me close. "I have plenty more. Just as long as you stay right where you belong." I leaned my head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. The power struggle was over, not because one of us had won, but because we had both finally surrendered. I wasn't his secretary or his plaything anymore. I was his equal in every way that mattered, and for the first time in my life, I felt exactly where I was supposed to be.
