It takes less than a second for Regan to bolt out through the door and shift into his rugged dark wolf form. A snarl vibrates in my ears, and Derek yelps when the massive creature lunges for his throat. His hands immediately release their death grip on me, which is actually frightening. I expect myself to fall to the ground and get hurt, but I’m seized by magic and gently transported to the porch by Regan’s powers.
I watch in terror as Derek and Regan fight, their bodies locked in a deadly embrace. Regan’s wolf form is larger and stronger than Derek, but Derek is fast and manages to land several hard blows on Regan’s side.
“Thalia is mine!” Derek yells. “Mine, mine, and mine! You can’t have her! She is my fairy. My pet. My lover and my possession!”
