Star Light

1048 Words
Growing up Star didnt have much. People always said she looked like her mother. And apparently that was a bad thing in her town. No one would tell her who her mother was. Her father forbidded it. And since he was sheriff, his word was law.  Star learned early on not to ask about her mother. Her father would fly into a rage and throw anything not bolted down. After a nasty hit with flying book, she learned to avoid the subject. Star didnt like hospitals and the smell was to much for her.  When Star startes school things got easier. She wasnt home so much so her father dosnt have much anger to let out. But it was now he started to drink more and more. Especially on days like her birthday. That day was the worse. Her father seemed even angier on this day then any other. He would call in saying gunna spend the day with family, but in reality, he would just drink morning noon and night. Once Star began getting older she tried to stay out the way but there was always a reason. Chores weren't done right, food over cooked. Things like that. Then it was the belt. The day of her 17 birthday though..... Things where going a bit different. Star woke up and listened for any signs of her father. Hearing him snore she sighed with relief. Getting up she made sure to make breakfast for him and place it in the microwave and clean the dishes. With only a peice of toast she took off to school. Now Star didnt have many friends in school. Mainly becauae since her mother was so disliked in the community that hatres bled on to her. Didnt help her father always found ways to demean her. Throughout everything though she did have one friend, Tracey Niel.  Tracey Neils family was fairly new to town and with young parents, they didnt care much for small town gossip. They took Star into their home and accepted her as one of their own. Star always found a way to hide with them when she could. But most times she wasnt so lucky. Now walking to school she met up with Tracey and chatted their way to school. Star was never much of a talker but she put in her two cents here and there.  While walking Tracey handed her a ear bud "Listen to this new song from The Intrest. I swear its like they are singing straight to my soul." Tracey sighs dramatically. Star smiles and listens with Tracey. The song is pretty good. She finds herself singing along to the chorus.  "Please dont leave me i swear ill change just tell me what to do. I cant go on without you so please im down on my knees just please dont leave me...." Star goes quiet  Tracey stares. "OMG. Girl what was that?!"  Star blushes. "Im not that great of a singer." She mumbles. Tracey scoffs. "The hell you're not. I wish if could sing as good as that. You should go for the singing show or something." Star shakes her head smiling. Tracey was always good for her self esteem.  Entering school Star walked pass the groups of girls and guys. Ignoring the name calling and comments. Going through her morning wasnt bad. The name calling the comments didn't have much of an affect on her anymore. By lunch she was happy. Sitting in her spot next to Tracey ahe  out her notebook and began doodling with a hum.  Suddenly the room went silent. "Star Adams!" Star jerked up and paled. There stood her father in uniform and hair raggedy. "Lets go. Now." He growled. Cautiously Star got up and gathered her belongings. "Are you sure? He dont look well." Tracey says holding her hand. Star shakes her head and made her way to her father, ignoring the whispers and laughing. Once close enough he gripped her neck tightly and Star winces. To others it looked like a fatherly gesture. Though she was only 4'8 she was considered the shortest in her class. Pulling her outside her father pushed her into the car. Shakely Star strapped her seatbelt on and curled up to make herself seem small. Watching her father he made his way sluggish into the car. Closing her eyes she waited. Once they pulled into the driveway she could feel the wrath inside the car. "Get in the house now." He snapped. Hurriedly Star grabbed her things and made her way quickly into the house. Not far behind her father grabbed her arm and oulled her into the kitchen. Pulling her to the counter he dragged her head toward to microwave thay was open. "What the hell is that huh?" He asked menacingly. She looked up and saw the breakfast she made for him thia morning. "I cooked for you dad before i went to school." She gasped in paun as he threw her into the fridge. "And who the f**k told you to go to school today?!" He yelled. "You know the damn rules and you disobeyed me especially on this day." Star flinches away.  "Please daddy I didn't mean to. The school would have called. I didnt want them disturbing you." She cried. "I dont fuckin care! You think you know everything huh. Nothing but a selfish b***h just like your mother. You need to be punished." The familiar soumd of a belt rustling and Star tried to move away. "Please daddy don't. Im sorry. Just tell me what i did wrong im Sorry please." She begged.  Suddenly Star was thrown up and into the counter. The feeling of being stabbed multiple times on her back made her scream. "Why? Ill tell you why dammit. Because you live you b***h. You live and im stuck with you!" He roared letting her go. Star falls off the counter.  "Oh f**k. I cant be blamed for this." She hears him mutter. Star doesnt understand whats going on. She sees her dad with bloody hands on the phone. Then she sees flashes of lights and concern on her fathers face. Star doesnt think much as she slowly looses conscious but with a final flash of light she thinks. Finally some peace maybe.
