UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Velda’s POV A soft knock at the door pulled me from sleep. My head ached slightly, and as my eyes adjusted to the morning light, I realized I wasn’t in my own bed. The room was lavish, the sheets softer than anything I owned. My heart pounded. Where am I? Before I could panic, a woman entered the room, her posture calm and professional. “Good morning, madam,” she said gently. “You’re in the Triton residence.” My breath caught. Triton… Priden Triton. Last night’s events rushed back in fragments. The man. The familiarity. The way he’d looked at me like he knew me from somewhere. I sat up, clearing my throat. “Can I see him?” She hesitated. “I’m sorry, but Mr. Triton is unavailable at the moment. However, he left instructions to ensure you were comfortable.” Unsettled, I swung my legs off the bed. “I should go.” “Of course.” She gestured toward a chair where a fresh set of clothes was laid out. “You may change before you leave.” After a quick change, I was about to leave when another woman entered the room. “Madam, sir said you can take the car home. He will send a driver to collect it later.” I hesitated. Why was he being so generous? What did he want from me? Still, I nodded. “Alright. Thank you.” She smiled. “I’m Allie, by the way.” “Nice to meet you, Allie. I’m Velda.” “Safe travels, Velda.” With a distracted nod, I walked out of the mansion and drove home, my mind swirling with questions. --- When I stepped into my apartment, Keelson was at his desk, focused on his laptop. He didn’t look up. “Hello, Keel,” I said, dropping my bag onto the couch. Silence. I rolled my eyes. “Ahem.” Finally, he glanced at me with a smirk. “Oh, Velda. Enjoyed yourself last night?” His tone was teasing, but something about it made my stomach twist. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. “You tell me.” I scoffed. “I don’t have time for your games, Keel.” “Of course you don’t,” he muttered. “But he does.” I froze. “What?” Keel’s eyes flickered with something unreadable. “Nothing. Just be careful, Velda.” I didn’t know what he meant. But the warning in his voice stayed with me. --- Priden’s POV The city stretched before me, but I barely noticed. Velda. The name alone sent a sharp pulse through my memory—one I couldn’t quite grasp. Who was she? And why did it feel like I had known her before? I rubbed my temples, trying to force the answer to come. The effort sent a sharp pain through my skull. Not again. Reaching for the small bottle in my drawer, I swallowed a pill quickly, waiting for the pain to subside. But even as it faded, one thought remained. I needed to see her again. And this time, I wouldn’t let her slip away. ---
