My chest tightened uncomfortably as I tried to hold back tears. Even though I was used to being surrounded by people who were grieving their loved ones, I wasn't used to seeing Josh suffering alone. For some reason, he looked so vulnerable and fragile. I never realized how much he had suffered before now and although he had made great strides since he had become involved with me, there were still times when I could see the pain that lingered deep within his brown eyes.
