All I had was the clothes on my back and the money I had earned on my last paycheck for school. So little to protect him. My heart pounded painfully. I felt light headed and dizzy. This was ridiculous. I had to do something to help Gabriel. I couldn't sit around here and watch him struggle against the monster that had taken his life. I had to save him. After a while I felt calmer, but my nerves were still tense. There was absolutely nothing I could do from outside the room. I could try shouting, but then he might think I had been eavesdropping. I could yell, but that would mean someone heard it. Besides, I didn't know who else was home and how they would react if they found me here. I didn't have time to figure that out.
