I held my breath and prayed for Gabriel to arrive in time. Then, I heard another sound. Footsteps. More than one set. It was too late to hide. I needed to act fast. I pulled out the knife that I had taken from the vampires' lair. The chains around my wrists and ankles prevented me from moving much, but I managed to free myself enough to stand up. There were two vampires at the door, their mouths wide open, ready to bite. I kicked the first one in the stomach, knocking him over. The other one lunged forward, trying to rip my throat out. I stabbed him in the chest and ran past him. I was running away from the vampires, and I didn't care where I ended up. I just wanted to be safe. Ahead of me, I saw a large building.
