"Why did you run away in the first place? Didn't you like living here?" "I was afraid," Gerald admitted. His mother was silent for a moment before asking: "Afraid of what? What happened to make you run away?" "Everything. I had always lived there, but now that I am no longer there, it feels strange." "Strange? How do you mean?" "If nothing changes and there is still no change in the past, it makes it seem as though nothing really changed at all. Even if something does happen, it still doesn't make sense."
