The doctor finished up with Little Foot and instructed what to do for when fever arose. The doctor left and Jonathan stayed watch over Little Foot throughout the night.
The fever came with a vengeance just a few hours later. The boys kept watch over him through out the night as Little Foot’s body raged with fever.
Little Foot would continually repeat two words; “Devil,” “Murder.” None of the brothers knew what it meant, they just kept him as comfortable as possible. The next morning didn’t bring any relief for the man. Jon let James take his place and went out to take care of the farm.
Jonathan went downstairs to the kitchen and slugged back a large amount of coffee. There was no one in the kitchen making breakfast today so Jon just headed outside with an empty stomach.
