Chapter 4

917 Words
Seeing the woman he loved being hit by me, he was absolutely devastated. He quickly helped Olivia up and glared at me furiously. "Agnes, have I been too good to you? What gives you the right to hit her?" "Well, you tell me!" I pinned him with a sharp glare. A flicker of panic flashed across Nathan's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by concern. "Are you alright?" He looked at Olivia tenderly. That clingy, doting mess of his was absolutely disgusting. "Nathan, I only came here to wish Agnes well. I never thought she would hit me. My baby... my stomach hurts so bad." Such good acting from Olivia. She was clutching her stomach with her eyes already reddened. But I caught the flash of cruelty in her eyes. Nathan believed every word of it. "I'll take you to the hospital right now." He picked Olivia up and was about to leave. As he brushed past me, he still paused to glance at me. "Agnes, I am so disappointed in you. If I had known what a jealous person you were, I would never have saved you back then." Nathan's words actually made me laugh. Is this how my savior should act? I did not press the matter; I only watched silently as Nathan left. I'd almost finished compiling all the evidence I needed; I was going to send Olivia to prison once and for all. To my surprise, Madam Linwood found out that Olivia was hospitalized, and she had her bodyguards force me to the hospital. Inside the ward, Madam Linwood looked at Olivia with a gentle gaze. "Dear, you're a precious asset to the Linwood family now, you must take good care of yourself." "Okay, don't worry. I won't let anything happen to this baby—this is my baby with Nathan, after all." When she got to this point, Olivia didn't miss the chance to glance over at me, then added, "Madam, I believe Agnes didn't mean it. Let her get up first—after all, she's going to marry Nathan soon..." "Marry Nathan?" Madam Linwood sneered, "A woman like her will never marry my son, not in a million years." After saying that, she gave me a condescending, pitying glance. "Call Nathan right now and tell him you will never marry him." I did as she said. After all, I never wanted to marry that man. But Nathan was frantic on the other end of the line, badgering me nonstop for an explanation. Why wouldn't I marry him? "Eight years. Do you know how long I've waited to marry you? Eight whole years?" Nathan started putting on his act of profound love, and I almost couldn't hold back my laughter. Sorry, I really had no idea. I didn't listen to another word and hung up immediately; I was afraid I'd actually throw up. Madam Linwood nodded in satisfaction. "Now apologize to my future daughter-in-law." I would never apologize to a murderer. Seeing I didn't move an inch, Madam Linwood ordered the bodyguards to beat me right away. I protected myself the entire time, but she kept ordering the bodyguards to hit my face, to beat me to within an inch of my life. All of these orders were recorded by my hidden camera. By the time I was beaten and left barely clinging to consciousness, Nathan arrived. He acted like my guardian, pulling me firmly behind his back to shield me. "Who allowed you to hit Agnes?" I couldn't tell what kind of act he was pulling now, because I had already lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was already in a hospital room. Nathan frowned at me. "Agnes, we're about to get married. You shouldn't have treated Olivia like that. After all, she's carrying my child, and she stayed with me the entire time I was abroad. You..." "Nathan, if that's how things are, why don't you marry Olivia instead?" "No, Agnes. I love you, and I want to marry you." When he heard I didn't want to marry him anymore, Nathan looked scared. In that moment, I really wanted to slap him too. But I held back. With a cold, fake smile, I said to him, "I will apologize to her. Three days from now, after I'm discharged, I'll issue a public statement." Nathan was very pleased with my promise. "I knew it! You're the best, Agnes." After getting my promise, Nathan left. In the three days that followed, he never came once. Olivia, on the other hand, kept sending me updates on where he was—he'd been staying with her the whole time. I recorded everything in silence. Soon, the three days passed, and I packed my bags to match my flight departure time and headed straight for the airport. Before boarding, I sent the video evidence of Olivia committing arson years ago, along with all the vile things she and Nathan had done over the years, to the police and top internet influencers. An hour later, just as the plane was about to take off, Nathan sent me a message: Where's your statement? I smiled coldly and replied: Check on the internet. Right after that message, I blocked Nathan and removed my SIM card. I took one last look at this city that had trapped me, and smiled. I knew what came next would be pure hell for Nathan and Olivia. By the time the plane climbed to cruising altitude, all of Seaville was blowing up.
