Chapter Two

I didn't lose my money. Even thou it felt like Cam was going to throttle me for winning it still felt good to see her happy with him again. Well sort of happy. Cam said she was going tell me all about that next time so I didn't really push her on phone the other day. Meanwhile I was sure I was gaining muscles from moving these stupid boxes around all day. At first I was really tempted to hire someone for the job, but then I realized that I had a week off of work and I didn't really have any hobbies so transferring boxes from one location to another would be fun, right? I'm such a dumbass for even thinking that. After I called at work to tell them I was going to buy the house myself I got some teasing from my boss and his secretary, but everything went okay and they agreed I needed a little time off to settle in the manor so that went well. I set down the last box from my apartment. I took a look around me and everything seemed to be packed and... void. I looked at my terrace again and contemplated staying just a couple more hours to see the city at night one last time, but decided against it. I would get bored out of my mind inside here now that everything was gone. And even thou I had only called the office the previous morning I still had only eight days to get completely moved in, judging that I called them on Friday. I sighed and took the box in my arms again... The manor in itself was beautiful, there was no denying that, but now that most of my boxes were blocking the main entrance it didn't seem so appealing. I looked at all the furniture around me, immediately stating that most of them were useless and would need to get removed. I had been inside the house before to take pictures for my clients but I had never really explored around because none of my clients had ever made it inside the house. I looked around me. The previous owner, an old lady who had died a couple years ago had given the house to her nephew, who had immediately disliked it and had sold it to our company. Because of that the house was most likely in the same condition she had left it. Filled with antiques and creepy portraits on the attic that I hadn't shown my clients, because I feared it would send them away. Not that they ever got here. It had quickly dawned on me that my move to buy this house was pretty rushed and extremely petty. I couldn't find a buyer so I had to buy it myself. This decision was definitely going to stain my position on the company, but oh well, since I already had confirmed it there was no point in backing down now. I looked around me again and this time something caught my eye. Something shiny hanging from the very expensive-looking chandelier. I took slow steps towards the middle of the main entrance. I'm pretty sure all the rooms in here had names, but oh well, my originality would kick in soon enough and I would rename all of them so why bother learning the real names now. Turns out that the thing hanging from the chandelier was a thick gold chain that looked super long for a necklace and yet too short for me to catch on my tiptoes. I was debating to try and get it by climbing the stairways on the left side, but shortly realized that a simple chain wasn't worth a broken leg or worse. After all, what kind of a fool makes the same mistake twice... I raised my head and shook it violently. I wasn't going to cry about it. Not on my first day on my new house. I stared at the chain again and chuckled to myself, not believing that only moments ago I was contemplating risking my life for a stupid chain. Even if said chain was made out of gold. Hell no. not again. I started to walk away and headed towards the boxes once more, but a weird noise stopped me. I cautiously turned around, only to frown when I noticed that the golden chain had fallen on the ground. I walked towards the chain with a smile on my face and grabbed it with enthusiasm. But then a serial killer appeared out of nowhere and... Yeah, right. This isn't going to turn into a horror movie. I smiled to myself and shook my head. I then proceeded to grab a thin cloth that was near and picked up the chain. I folded the napkin and took it outside. I left it on the doorstep of the main entrance, near the trash bin.
