Chapter 3

1000 Words
"I'm sorry sir, it's not what you think. I was r***d" Emily began to apologize as she gently returned the mirror before walking up to him. "I am so sorry Mr Jason" her boss turned and apologized to him. "Oh wow, I didn't know you employ people who had escaped the psychiatric hospital now. I am so disappointed I must say. At least I deserve an apology" Her boss nodded, a little relieved that Jason didn't demand much but it could also mean, he will stop patronizing him. Emily who was watching the entire scene stood in bewilderment. She was obviously the victim here. Did her boss not care about that? Before she could say, Jack! Her boss turned to her and asked her to apologize. "But I was...." "No buts-" Emily took in a deep breath and apologized to Jason with a bow. "I cannot accept this, go on your knees" Jason stated clearly. Was he crippled in his past life or something, why does he want everyone to go on their knees? Emily wondered in anger as she quietly went on her knees and repeated her words. "I'm sorry sir" Jason turned to her, his jacket hung on his shoulders and a scornful smile was boldly written on his face. "Sorry?" Emily recognized that smile, It was the same look he gave her when she knelt down to accept the money from him. "I'm sorry for causing a fuss and hurting you" Emily whispered "Doesn't sound sincere but I've been patronizing this club for a while so I'll let it go. I hope we never get to cross paths, I won't be this generous next time" Emily scoffed. She was in the best position to say those words to him. If the universe will be nice to make them cross paths she swore it will be the last time he'll get to see the face of the earth. With that Jason smiled at her boss who was standing by the door and whispered. "I'll see you tonight" Relieving! At least he wasn't abandoning the club because of her. "You know I trusted you, yeah?" Her boss's voice broke out, disrupting her sudden excitement. Emily bowed in shame. She felt bad for failing him as well but what could she possibly do. "I'm sorry sir, I promise I will make it up to you" she apologized, bowing them before him. He didn't respond. He walked up to the table and grabbed the dollar notes Jason had given to her. "There will be no need for that. You're dismissed. You heard him clearly, he doesn't want to set his eyes on you. Mr Jason has been topping the list of our VIPs and we can't afford to lose him" "No, no, no" she muttered, shaking her head vigorously. She couldn't afford to lose her job already, not now. Her boss paused at the door without sparing a glance at her. He held up the notes in his hands. "These... I'll take it as compensation for the damage you caused. Stop by at the reception to take your severance pay" "s**t" she muttered, bowing her head as he walked away. She had lost her only job..... again ****** "Emily, what the hell happened? Why would you lose your job after being promoted?" Emily let out a soft sigh as she sat on the large sized bed in their room. It was basically the most expensive property in their apartment. She rolled her eyes around the apartment like it was her first time even though she had been living with Kristine for half a decade, it suddenly felt strange. The wooden clock, messy wardrobe, creaky noise from the ceiling fan, messy table. She let out a sigh again. "I messed up, Kristine" Kristine couldn't contain her guilt. She sat next to her on the bed looking at her pathetically. "I should have explained more about what I meant when I said this is what goes on in the VIP lounge. I'm sorry your values had to be compromised" Emily smiled as she shook her head gently. "No, Kristine, none of this is your fault. I was powerless and he was powerful. He made me lose my job. He r***d me and cost me my job!" "It's quite unfortunate that we can't do anything about that, come here" Kristine stated in disappointment, dragging Emily closer to her embrace. "You will find a job soon and everything will be back to normal" Emily didn't know when tears rolled down her eyes until she felt need to sniff. "Thank you, Kristine. Are you not running late for your part time job? Go" "Sure you'll be fine yourself?" Emily nodded gently like a child and feigned a smile. Kristine nodded and rose up. "Then I'll proceed with getting dressed. Holla me when you need anything, okay?" Losing her job really felt like the end of the world but nothing was more satisfying than having someone sit next to you in the storm like Kristine was doing. She smiled broader as she watched Kristine got dressed. They've been through thick and thin together and in those joyous, sad, frustrating and happiest moments, they've both been shoulders to themselves and that was exactly how they managed to survive. "Let's get on to the hunt, Emily....again" Emily muttered, following it with a sigh as she grabbed her phone. "Clubs, coffee shops, grocery stores, convenience stores...." She whispered as she ticked the categories before proceeding with her job hunt. "Emily" Kristine called out wearing a soft smile. Emily lifted up her head. "You will be employed soon" Emily smiled and returned to her screen. Her smiles strained when a notification popped up on her screen. "Kristine, I just got a job" She screamed out, her expression filled with shock. "Huh?" "I've been called for an interview for the role of a Psychologist. I'm finally using my degree!" She screamed out in excitement that caused tears to roll down her cheeks.
