I was caught between emotions as I headed home that day. After the committee passed their judgement, I felt so relieved that it almost made me dizzy. But that relief was forced to make room for pity for Derrick. It didn’t seem fair that he was the only one that had to suffer for everything that happened between us. I couldn’t help but to feel as if my presence in his life was what had eventually ruined it. My heart felt heavy and it remained that way till I got home. Even though the following day was a Friday and my suspension did not start until the following Monday, I decided not to go to school the next day. I had no reason to, especially when I knew that news of what happened would be fresh on the mind of everyone.
