Almost a week later, the ethics committee finally came to their decision. That morning, I was on my way out of my first class when I received an email from them. My heartrate spiked as soon as I saw the email. To make matters worse, Annabelle wasn’t in school that day. So I had no form of emotional support to help ease my worries. I was stranded and alone. Over the past few days, the number of curious, judgy, and appraising stares I usually received had reduced. It was as if people were beginning to forget about me. Either that or they simply didn’t deem me worthy of their attention anymore. But all of that did nothing to mitigate the guilt and the unhappiness that I felt. And it only got worse with each passing minute.
