Derrick's POV
Time seemed to stop as I watched Jake and Susan step into the restaurant. My heart did the same thing. A few seconds passed before Eliana turned and saw them too. Susan took a break from staring at me to cast a nasty glance at Eliana. She shrunk instantly. When Suasn shifted her gaze back to me, an offended look was etched into her face. Jake just kept on staring at me as if I was a criminal. Seeing Eliana so meek, I hurried over to her so I could protect her from them.
“Really, Derrick?” Susan asked as I got to where Eliana was sitting. Her voice was calmer than I expected. Thank God for that, at least. The last thing I needed was her blowing up inside the small space of the restaurant.
