Vaxon breathed a sigh of relief when the wolves left the farm, following their Alpha. Clearly the black wolf knew that he had been lying, but he didn’t try and press the matter any further. Which was a shock for the warlock.
But a shock he didn’t have time to appreciate.
He waved his hand while walking into the shed, revealing a pale she-wolf. It looked like she was barely clinging onto life. Her cheeks were sunken in and her complexion was worse than a vampire who hadn’t seen the sun for over one hundred years. He was suddenly grateful that he had placed the blanket over her, maybe it was able to give her some warmth. He could hear her teeth chattering as he walked closer.
It was obvious the wolf was here but the Alpha had chosen to ignore the fact that she was here. Maybe he didn’t know much about spells and thought she would be lost to him forever if he killed the warlock. Whatever the reason, Vaxon was grateful.
He chanted the healing spell and placed his hand back over the wound in her neck, which looked like it had gotten worse in the time he was dealing with her mate. She moaned in agony when the spell started to mend the skin together. Maybe she wouldn’t need to accept the mating bond. Vaxon was a powerful healer. He should be able to heal her completely.
“It hurts,” she moaned, her eyes popping open wide at the pain. “My skin is on fire.”
“It’s ok, I am healing the wound as we speak.”
“No,” the she-wolf pulled her neck away in a sudden show of strength. “You’ll make it worse.”
Vaxon watched her pant heavily. She pressed a hand against her chest, ignoring the hole in her neck. He watched the wound on her neck ooze fresh blood. He should’ve at least been able to stop the blood flow with the small amount of healing he was able to do.
“If you don’t let me heal you then you will bleed out.”
The she-wolf looked up to him, one eye blue and one eye purple. “You cannot touch me.”
“Why? It’s the only way for me to heal you.”
The she-wolf winced when she tried to swallow. “Other men are not allowed to touch the mating mark. My body and wolf will reject any ministrations made.”
Vaxon’s jaw dropped, “I’m not allowed to touch your neck?”
She nodded once, groaning in pain when her neck couldn’t handle the movement.
“So, that’s what he meant when he said you need to accept the mating bond?” Vaxon asked himself more than the she-wolf, but she heard him.
“Ronan was here?”
“Yeah, he said you needed to accept the mating bond and drink this,” he handed her the pail of blood, “or else you will die at the end of the day.”
She shifted so she could look out of the window, “When the Chase Moon is gone I will die.”
“You want to die?”
“No!” she took a deep breath, “After everything I did to get away?”
She grabbed the pail with shaking hands and brought it to her dry, cracked lips. She drank deeply, barely taking a breath in between gulps. When she was finished she threw the pail to the side and started coughing. Vaxon cringed at the ruby liquid that coated her mouth and neck now. Werewolves were definitely animalistic. They were humans who turned into wolves afterall.
“Why aren’t you getting better?” He asked when she kept coughing up the blood. “That was supposed to save you.”
Her eyes flared with panic, “Rana!”
Her blue eye changed to a violet to match her other eye. Fangs shot out of her mouth and the power around her changed. It was more charged. She suddenly had an aura similar to her mate. Vaxon cringed when he heard an angry howl that echoed through the forest.
Her mate was running a very high risk of exposing the supernatural community to the humans. Vaxon was going to have to report this to the High Coven. If he was dangerous enough the coven would stop him.
“Who are you?” her voice was raspier, more aggressive.
“Vaxon Nightshade.”
“What is a warlock doing here?”
He blinked back his surprise, “Collecting herbs.”
She coughed up more blood, “Don’t you know its dangerous to be near wolves during the Chase?”
“The chase?”
Her eyes narrowed, “How old are you?”
“Twenty.”
“A pup,” she coughed. “This damn mate of mine. I can hear him calling to me.”
“Is he on his way?” Vaxon looked over his shoulder, trying to hide his sudden fear.
“No, he’s demanding I come home on my own.”
“What’s your name?” The warlock asked, suddenly realizing he didn’t ask her back.
“Rana.”
