AZRIEN'S POV The room was quiet. I sat hunched on the edge of the bed, my hands clasped together, staring at the floorboards as if they might answer the questions circling in my head. The silence was only broken by the occasional creak of wood. It was the kind of sound that reminded me I was very much alone here. Elisa’s absence lingered like a shadow. I could still hear her voice in my mind, soft and full of life. And I hated myself for scaring her away the way I had. A long breath escaped me. Why do I always manage to lose the things I care about most? The mirror across the room caught my eye. Its surface reflected back only me — pale, tired, weak, a man unrecognizable even to himself. My thoughts drifted to a few minutes ago when Seryphine appeared there. Her words were unsettling
