5. WHAT?!

The couple stopped by our table and the girl didn't take her eyes from me for even a second. I liked the attention, but she was starting to give me some creepy vibes, and the last thing I needed on my first day here was a psycho fan. "Hey Rob, you haven't told me you know Harriet." - to my surprise Jake said to the silver haired dude. "Wait, you know each other?" - I asked shocked. I mean, how and when? "Yeah, Rob is my roommate." - answered Jake shrugging. "Robin Dawson" - said the guy stretching his hand to me. "Victor Cargarough" - I answered, shaking it. That Prick squeezed so hard that it started hurting and it wasn't easy to cause Alpha blooded wolf like me any pain. I answered with even more strength from my side and I was seconds from breaking his hand. "Are you two gonna hold hands the entire evening? Maybe you would like to stay alone?" - Harry asked, smirking. That Rob guy and I quickly stopped our standoff with one last glare from each side. "Ok, the amount of testosterone got too high for my liking, if you won't stop that I will kick both of your asses!" - add Harriet. "Yeah, you could try." - I sneered at her and she narrowed her eyes at me, but when she was about to say something someone we forgot was also here cleared her throat. We all turned our gazes towards the long-legged beauty who was still watching me intensely. "Aa yes, sorry about that Hun, but these Morons needed to learn their places." - said Harry with another threatening look - "Victor, Jake, meet my roommate - Iris Lictorn from Fang Pride Pack." Both me and my friend stretched our hands to greet this girl, but I was faster. I took her hand and kissed her knuckles keeping an eye contact. What?! A bit of gallantry won't hurt! "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Iris. Victor Cargarough, at your service." - this Iris girl blushed so hard she was the color of a ripe tomato, but she didn't do anything to break the skin contact with me. "Why are you so creepy today, Vic? Let the girl go." - whined Harry. Reluctantly I did as she said, but even when Jake was introducing himself Iris didn't spare him a glance still watching me. The five of us finally sat down and started eating. We made small talk and it turned out Iris is Beta's daughter just like Harry and her Pack is one of the largest in Canada, but unlike Harry who had my sister for a role model, she wasn't much of a fighter. She has two older brothers ready to step up to the Beta post so her father never really pressured her to become a great warrior. I get it, I wondered many times why my father was so adamant about Nica being strong. Not that she needed it. Actually, her being so fierce made it so much harder for her Mate, so what's the point? "So what's the deal with you, Rob? Where are you from?" - I asked him casually, but I saw that whatever I said irritated him to no end. Perfect, so the feeling is mutual. "I'm surprised you don't know me, cause it was your sister in law who found me and brought me here." - he answered with a smug smile I so badly wanted to wipe from his face, but his words gained my interest. "Chloe? How do you know her?" "She and her cousins spend quite some time searching for remaining white wolves." "Wait, you are white wolf?" "Yes I am." - he answered proudly. Just great, the one guy I dislike turns out to be some kind of special wolf. Damn you Goddess! "So what's your power?" - his smile fell and for a second he glanced at Iris. "None of your business." - He replied hostile. It was probably something lame so I didn't pressure any further. Who cares anyway. After that conversation was a bit awkward so Harry being the good girl she is, did her best to change the subject. "Have you two thought about what classes to choose?" "I'm signing up for medicine classes. Tommy told me he could use a hand in the clinic, and since I won't be taking any rank it seems like a good option." - said Jake. Wow, I never suspected he was even considering something else than becoming a warrior. He was a strong wolf, a Gamma blood for f**k's sake. Why would he choose to treat the ill and injured instead?! But it's true he had more in common with his sister's Mate than with her. They became fast friends and spent a lot of time together. Guess it's his life, and if it will serve for the wellbeing of my pack I'm not gonna stand in his way. "That's cool Jake, good for you." - cheers Harry - "What about you Cargarough? I suppose that future Alpha who gets everything on a silver platter is too good for those classes, but maybe you want to surprise us with something?" "Oh you know me, Moyez. I'm not into surprises. I'll go for standards: Lycan Law, Advanced War Strategies, all of the combat classes." "Boring!" - Harry sneered and everyone started laughing. Well, almost everyone because Iris was deep in her thoughts. She is so cute when she's frowning like that. I wondered what made her like that though. She seemed like the type who always smiles. "Alright kids, I'm gonna take off. I promised my nephew I'll call him later today and tell him some scary goodnight story." - said Harriet standing up from the table, and looking expectantly at Iris. "Is Heston allowing you to frighten his child before bed?" - asked Jake. "Hes doesn't need to know about it. Besides Rico is the best, he wouldn't sell me out." "With him and Val, I'm afraid of Dragon Night's future." - Jake commented, making me smirked. But he's totally right those kids are real troublemakers. "Oh Please, better worry about Crescent Moon's future with Viky over here as Alpha." - that said she started running for her life suspecting I would run after her. Harry wasn't wrong, but just when I was about to chase after her Iris placed her soft hand on my arm gaining my attention. " Victor, can we talk? Alone." - she looked serious, so I forgot all about Harry's childish behaviour and nodded. Something about that girl saying my name made me focus only on her. Both of us said a quick 'bye' to Jake and Rob, who by the way threw a daggers in me with his eyes when I was walking away with Iris. Oh well, guess he just became a Lord Friendzone. Iris led me outside the castle to the now completely empty training ground. Night was stary and peaceful and I could shake the feeling that it would be perfect scenery for a first date. Not that I'm planning on dating anyone here, but it was just a thought. I looked at the girl next to me and she was playing with a single strand of her hair. She looked nervous, but why would she? I'm a nice guy after all. "Iris." - I gained her attention and that alone threw her out of reverie. - "What did you want to talk about?" "Was it true what you said… that you don't like surprises?" - she asked, and I could tell that with every word she was getting more and more anxious. "Yeah." "Well, here it comes… Victor Cargarough, I'm your Mate." "WHAT?!" - Was the only answer that came into my mind.
