Chapter 15. An Heir for the De Luca Empire

641 Words
Mrs. De Luca slammed her teacup down angrily. “This family needs an heir, Adrian.” The atmosphere inside the mansion dining room instantly became tense. Sofia sat quietly beside Adrian while secretly hoping for his answer. Months had passed since their wedding, yet Adrian still treated her like a stranger. He barely touched her. Barely stayed home. Barely looked at her. Adrian leaned back calmly in his chair. “I know.” His mother frowned. “Then stop delaying it. The De Luca empire cannot remain without a child.” For a moment, silence filled the room. Then Adrian finally spoke coldly. “There’s another way.” Sofia looked up immediately. That night, for the first time since their marriage, Adrian returned home with Sofia instead of disappearing to one of his private houses. Sofia’s heart nearly exploded with happiness. Maybe things were finally changing. Maybe he was finally accepting her as his wife. But the moment they entered the bedroom, Adrian’s cold voice shattered her excitement completely. “I already spoke with my private doctor.” Sofia blinked in confusion. “What?” Adrian calmly loosened his tie. “You want to give the family an heir. Fine.” His sharp eyes landed on her. “We’ll do it medically.” Sofia froze. Adrian’s expression remained emotionless as he explained everything professionally like a business deal. “My sperm and your egg will be fertilized through IVF. You’ll carry the child.” Sofia stared at him speechlessly. “No emotions. No unnecessary intimacy,” Adrian added coldly. “In return, you’ll have everything you want.” The words hurt her pride deeply. Even now… He still didn’t truly want her. But Sofia forced herself to smile. If giving him an heir would finally make him accept her, then she was willing. “I agree,” she whispered softly. The next morning, Adrian instructed her to visit De Luca Private Hospital, the most luxurious and advanced hospital in Italy. Everything had already been arranged secretly with his private doctor. The moment Sofia arrived at the hospital, attention immediately followed her everywhere. “That’s Mrs. De Luca…” “She’s so beautiful.” “She’s carrying the future De Luca heir.” Even nurses and wealthy patients envied her luxurious life. Sofia proudly enjoyed every second of the attention while walking through the VIP floor. For once… She finally felt important in Adrian’s world. Several medical examinations were done throughout the day while Adrian remained absent as usual. But later that evening, the head doctor entered Sofia’s private room with a serious expression. Something felt wrong immediately. “Mrs. De Luca…” the doctor spoke carefully. “There’s a complication.” Sofia’s smile faded slowly. “What complication?” The doctor hesitated briefly before speaking. “Your womb is extremely weak.” Sofia’s face turned pale instantly. “What do you mean?” “Carrying a pregnancy would be very dangerous for your body. The chances of miscarriage are extremely high.” The room suddenly felt suffocating. “No…” Sofia whispered shakily. The doctor sighed softly. “I’m sorry.” Sofia clenched her hands tightly in panic. If she couldn’t give Adrian an heir… Then what value did she have left? Tears slowly filled her eyes as desperate thoughts rushed through her mind. Then suddenly— An idea appeared. Sofia slowly looked up at the doctor. “What if someone else carries the baby?” The doctor blinked slightly. “You mean a surrogate?” Sofia nodded slowly. “If my egg and Adrian’s sperm are used… another woman can carry the child for us, right?” The doctor remained silent for a moment before finally answering carefully. “Yes. It’s possible.” And at that exact moment… Fate quietly began pulling Elena back toward Adrian De Luca once again.
