Chapter 41. The Woman Disturbing His Peace

616 Words
The next morning, Adrian sat silently inside his private office staring at the silver bracelet resting in his hand. The tiny music-note charm reflected softly beneath the office lights. Again— Fragments flashed through his mind. Music. A school garden. A girl laughing softly beside him. “Promise you won’t forget me…” Suddenly— Knock. Knock. His personal assistant entered carefully. Luca Romano. The only man who had worked beside Adrian faithfully for years without fearing him completely. “Sir,” Luca spoke professionally while placing several documents on the table. “Belléna officially signed the partnership contract.” Adrian calmly placed the bracelet back into the drawer. “The media response?” “Huge,” Luca answered honestly. “Italy is obsessed with Miss Elena Moretti right now.” For some reason— Hearing other people praise Elena irritated Adrian slightly. Luca noticed his expression immediately but wisely stayed quiet. Then moments later— Another man casually entered the office without knocking. “Still alive, brother?” Adrian looked up coldly. Damien Russo. One of Italy’s youngest billionaire CEOs and Adrian’s closest friend. Unlike Adrian, Damien was charming, playful, and openly flirtatious. He owned Russo Entertainment Group, one of Europe’s biggest media and luxury event companies. Damien smirked while dropping onto the couch comfortably. “You should see social media right now,” he laughed lightly. “Half of Italy is already in love with Elena Moretti.” Adrian’s expression remained unreadable. Damien leaned forward teasingly. “Honestly? I understand them.” Luca quietly adjusted his glasses knowing trouble was coming. “She’s beautiful,” Damien continued casually. “Elegant. Smart. A single mother too.” Adrian’s jaw tightened faintly. Damien grinned immediately. “Oh?” Luca instantly pretended to focus on his tablet to avoid smiling. “She interests me,” Damien admitted openly. “I might ask her out.” The office suddenly became colder. Adrian slowly looked toward him. “She’s not someone you play with.” Damien blinked before laughing softly. “Who said I’m playing?” Even Luca finally looked surprised now. Because Damien rarely showed genuine interest in women. Meanwhile Adrian’s expression darkened slightly without reason. “She’s here for business,” he said coldly. “And?” Damien shrugged carelessly. “Business women can date too.” Silence filled the office briefly. Then Luca carefully interrupted before the atmosphere became worse. “Sir, your meeting starts in twenty minutes.” Adrian nodded once. Meanwhile across Milan, Elena prepared Isabella for school while Bella happily hummed songs around the mansion. “Mama, can I bring cupcakes today?” Elena smiled softly while fixing her daughter’s tiny blazer. “Only if you share with everyone.” “I will.” Soon they arrived at Velmont Royal Elementary again. The moment Isabella entered class, several children happily greeted her. Meanwhile Leonardo sat proudly near the windows until another boy accidentally brushed against his desk. “Watch where you’re going,” Leonardo snapped arrogantly. The frightened child quickly apologized. But before Leonardo could continue— A calm little voice interrupted him again. “It was an accident.” Leonardo looked up immediately. Isabella. Again. Leonardo frowned. “You always interfere.” Isabella calmly crossed her arms. “You always act rude.” Several children quietly watched the two rich heirs argue again like a daily show. Leonardo scoffed proudly. “My father owns half of Milan.” Isabella tilted her head elegantly. “My mama owns companies too.” The classroom instantly became quiet again. Then one little girl whispered innocently, “They actually look alike…” And honestly— The resemblance between them was becoming harder to ignore each day.
