Chapter 10. The Morning After

468 Words
The loud music from the club still echoed faintly in Elena’s head as she slowly opened her eyes. A painful headache hit her immediately. “Ugh…” She sat up weakly before suddenly freezing. This wasn’t her room. The bedroom was massive and luxurious with dark modern furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Milan. Panic instantly filled her chest. “How did I get here?” Her phone suddenly vibrated nonstop on the bedside table. STEP MOTHER CALLING… Elena’s eyes widened. “Oh no.” She quickly grabbed the phone while rushing out of the bed, nearly falling because of dizziness. The moment she answered, Bianca’s furious voice exploded through the call. “Where the hell are you?!” “I-I…” “You shameless girl! You disappeared all night after the wedding! Come home immediately!” The call ended harshly. Elena quickly looked around nervously and noticed her clothes had been changed into an oversized white shirt. Her heartbeat became uneven instantly. Before she could panic further, the bedroom door suddenly opened. Adrian walked in. Elena froze completely. He looked freshly showered, cold, and perfectly dressed in a black suit like always. For a few seconds, silence filled the room. Then Elena finally spoke nervously. “W-why am I here?” Adrian’s expression remained unreadable. “You were drunk.” Elena remembered the club instantly. Then her eyes widened. “You brought me here?” Adrian looked irritated immediately. “You were causing trouble downstairs.” Elena quickly got off the bed. “I’m sorry, sir. I’ll leave now.” Sir again. For some reason, hearing her call him that annoyed him deeply. Adrian suddenly looked away coldly. Last night, seeing her dance with other men in the club strangely irritated him more than it should have. He didn’t understand why. And he hated not understanding things. Especially when it involved her. His phone suddenly rang. Sofia. Adrian stared at the screen briefly before answering. “What?” “Adrian!” Sofia complained sweetly. “You left me alone after our wedding reception. Where are you?” “At work.” “But you didn’t even come home.” “I’m busy.” Without another word, Adrian ended the call immediately. Elena watched quietly in confusion. Why wasn’t he with his new wife? Adrian turned toward her coldly again. “My assistant will drop you home.” “There’s no need—” “That wasn’t a request.” Just then Matteo entered the room respectfully. “Sir, the board meeting starts in one hour.” Adrian nodded once before grabbing his coat. “And send her out.” Elena’s chest tightened painfully at the cold words. Like she was only a problem he wanted removed quickly. Without looking at her again, Adrian walked out of the room.
