Chapter 21. The Pregnancy News

573 Words
Three weeks passed slowly inside the De Luca mansion. For Elena, every single day felt endless. Morning chores. Sofia’s insults. Painful silence from Adrian. And the constant fear inside her chest whenever she thought about the baby. That morning, Rosa gently knocked on Elena’s small room door. “Child,” the old maid whispered kindly. “The hospital called. They want you there immediately.” Elena’s heart skipped nervously. At the hospital, several tests were done quietly while Sofia sat impatiently beside Adrian in the VIP office. Unlike before, Adrian now attended most hospital updates personally. Not because he cared for Elena— But because the child carried the future of the De Luca empire. Finally, Dr. Marco Bellini entered the office holding a file. His eyes briefly landed on Sofia before returning professional again. “The procedure was successful.” Sofia immediately smiled excitedly. “You mean—?” “She’s pregnant.” For a moment, silence filled the room. Then Sofia hugged Adrian dramatically. “We’re finally going to have a baby!” Adrian remained calm, but something unreadable flashed briefly across his face. His sharp eyes slowly moved toward Elena standing quietly near the door. Pregnant. The word strangely affected him more than expected. Meanwhile Elena lowered her head silently while her fingers trembled slightly. Inside her now grew a child connected to the man she once loved more than anything. But the baby would never belong to her. Sofia quickly turned toward Elena with a cold warning hidden behind her smile. “You’ll be properly taken care of from now on. Remember how important this child is.” Elena nodded softly. “Yes, ma’am.” That night, the mansion atmosphere completely changed. Mrs. De Luca personally arrived with gifts and flowers after hearing the news. “The De Luca heir…” she smiled proudly. “Finally.” For the first time ever, Sofia received genuine affection from Adrian’s family. She felt victorious. At dinner, Sofia intentionally rested her hand on Adrian’s arm while speaking sweetly. “We should prepare the baby room early.” Adrian nodded once. “Do whatever you want.” Elena quietly served food nearby while trying to ignore the painful ache inside her chest. Every conversation about the baby reminded her of the heartbreaking truth. She would carry this child. Love this child. Then lose this child forever. Later that night, Elena suddenly felt dizzy while cleaning the hallway. Before she could steady herself, her body nearly collapsed— But strong hands caught her instantly. Elena froze. Adrian. His arm wrapped around her waist firmly while his sharp eyes studied her face. “You’re careless,” he muttered coldly. Elena quickly stepped away nervously. “I’m sorry, sir.” Again that word. Sir. For some strange reason, Adrian hated hearing it from her. His eyes slowly narrowed. “You’re carrying my child now. Stop overworking yourself.” The words sounded cold… Yet strangely protective too. Before Elena could respond, Sofia suddenly appeared upstairs. “Adrian!” Instantly, Adrian stepped away from Elena. Sofia walked down smiling before wrapping herself around his arm possessively. “Mother is asking for us downstairs.” Adrian nodded once before leaving with her. But as Elena quietly watched them disappear— Her hand slowly rested on her stomach. And for the first time since the pregnancy began… She silently wondered what would happen if Adrian ever discovered the truth.
