Episode 45
The Knock at Midnight
Michael's entire body froze.
The knocking came again.
Slow.
Deliberate.
Threatening.
His apartment suddenly felt much smaller.
Much more dangerous.
Nobody was supposed to know where he was.
Nobody.
For months he had moved from one location to another, avoiding attention, avoiding old contacts, avoiding anyone connected to the corruption scandal.
Yet someone had found him.
His hands trembled.
The laptop on the table displayed hundreds of files.
Documents.
Emails.
Bank records.
Evidence.
Enough evidence to destroy powerful people.
Enough evidence to send several influential figures to prison.
Enough evidence to change Didi's life forever.
The knocking came again.
Louder this time.
Michael swallowed hard.
Then slowly stood.
He moved quietly toward the door.
Carefully.
Silently.
He looked through the peephole.
And immediately stepped backward.
Fear exploded inside him.
Three men stood outside.
Men he recognized.
Men connected to the conspiracy.
Men who should never have found him.
His heartbeat accelerated.
The apartment suddenly felt like a trap.
---
Outside, one of the men knocked again.
"We know you're inside."
Michael closed his eyes.
His breathing became heavier.
Panic threatened to overwhelm him.
But he forced himself to think.
There had to be another way out.
There had to be.
Quickly, he grabbed a backpack and began stuffing documents inside.
His laptop.
The backup hard drive.
Several important files.
Everything he couldn't afford to lose.
The men outside grew impatient.
The knocking turned into pounding.
"Open the door!"
Michael ignored them.
Instead, he rushed toward the back window.
Fortunately, the apartment was located on the first floor.
Not ideal.
But survivable.
Without hesitation, he climbed through the window.
The moment his feet touched the ground, he began running.
---
Seconds later, the apartment door crashed open.
The men stormed inside.
Only to find an empty room.
One of them cursed loudly.
"He's gone."
The leader's expression darkened.
"Find him."
His voice was cold.
Dangerously cold.
"No mistakes this time."
---
Michael ran until his lungs burned.
Fear fueled every step.
He knew exactly what would happen if they caught him.
The thought alone pushed him forward.
Finally, after several minutes, he ducked into a crowded street.
Only then did he slow down.
Only then did he allow himself to breathe.
Then he pulled out his phone.
There was only one person he could trust now.
Didi.
---
At the same moment, Didi sat in her apartment studying.
University life had become more demanding.
Assignments.
Projects.
Exams.
The workload was intense.
But she didn't mind.
Every page she read reminded her how far she had come.
A girl who once struggled to buy notebooks was now attending university.
It still felt unreal sometimes.
Her phone suddenly rang.
Unknown number.
Immediately her stomach tightened.
Unknown numbers rarely brought good news anymore.
She answered cautiously.
"Hello?"
"Didi."
She immediately recognized the voice.
"Michael?"
The relief in his voice was obvious.
"They found me."
Didi sat upright.
"What?"
"They know where I was hiding."
Fear instantly replaced relief.
"Are you okay?"
"For now."
The answer wasn't reassuring.
Not even slightly.
---
Michael quickly explained everything.
The apartment.
The men.
His escape.
Every detail.
By the time he finished, Didi felt sick.
The situation was escalating.
Fast.
Far too fast.
"They won't stop."
Michael said quietly.
"They know I'm carrying evidence."
Silence.
Then he added:
"We need to meet."

Episode 46
The Evidence That Could Change Everything
The following morning, Didi informed Adrian about Michael's call.
His reaction was immediate.
"This is dangerous."
"I know."
"No."
Adrian shook his head.
"You don't."
The seriousness in his voice surprised her.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then Adrian continued.
"The people behind this have money."
Silence.
"Influence."
Another silence.
"And now they're desperate."
The last word hung heavily in the air.
Desperate people often make reckless decisions.
Dangerous decisions.
---
Despite the risks, they agreed to meet Michael.
The information he carried was too important.
Too valuable.
Too dangerous to ignore.
The meeting location was changed three times before Michael finally settled on an abandoned church outside the city.
A place few people visited.
A place unlikely to attract attention.
At least that was the hope.
---
Late that afternoon, Adrian drove Didi to the location.
The journey felt tense.
Neither spoke much.
Both remained alert.
Watching.
Waiting.
Expecting trouble.
Because trouble had become a regular part of their lives.
---
When they finally arrived, the church looked ancient.
The building showed signs of age.
Cracked walls.
Broken windows.
Faded paint.
Nature had slowly reclaimed parts of the structure.
Yet somehow it remained standing.
Just like Didi.
Just like Michael.
Just like everyone fighting for the truth.
---
Michael appeared several minutes later.
The moment Didi saw him, she almost didn't recognize him.
He looked exhausted.
His clothes were wrinkled.
Dark circles surrounded his eyes.
The fear he carried was obvious.
"Thank you for coming."
His voice sounded weak.
Adrian stepped forward.
"What happened?"
Michael looked around carefully before answering.
"They know everything."
Silence.
"Everything?"
Michael nodded.
"They know I kept records."
The three entered the church.
Only then did Michael open his backpack.
Inside were documents.
Lots of documents.
And a hard drive.
The sight immediately captured Adrian's attention.
---
Michael carefully placed the hard drive on a wooden table.
"This contains everything."
Didi's heartbeat accelerated.
Everything.
The word carried enormous weight.
"What exactly is everything?"
Michael took a deep breath.
Then began explaining.
Years ago, when the corruption scandal started, several influential businessmen secretly worked together.
They manipulated investigations.
Destroyed evidence.
Bribed officials.
And protected one another.
Anyone who resisted was removed.
Anyone who spoke out was silenced.
Anyone who threatened their power became a target.
---
Didi listened in silence.
Each revelation felt heavier than the last.
Then Michael said something unexpected.
"Your father wasn't the only victim."
The statement caught her off guard.
"What?"
Michael nodded.
"There were others."
People who lost jobs.
People whose reputations were ruined.
People whose lives were destroyed.
The conspiracy had affected far more families than anyone realized.
---
Adrian's expression hardened.
"Why are you telling us this now?"
Michael looked down.
Shame filled his eyes.
"Because I helped them."
The confession stunned everyone.
Even Didi.
"You what?"
His shoulders slumped.
Years of guilt became visible on his face.
"I wasn't one of the leaders."
His voice trembled.
"But I followed orders."
Silence.
Painful silence.
"I altered records."
Nobody spoke.
"I changed reports."
More silence.
"And I stayed quiet while innocent people suffered."
---
For a moment, nobody knew what to say.
Michael looked broken.
A man carrying years of regret.
A man trying desperately to correct old mistakes.
Finally Didi spoke.
"Why come forward now?"
Tears appeared in his eyes.
Real tears.
Because some questions hurt.
Deeply.
"Because I have a daughter."
The answer shocked her.
Michael swallowed hard.
"She's your age."
Silence.
"I kept imagining what would happen if someone destroyed her future."
His voice cracked.
"What happened to your family happened because people like me stayed silent."
The church became completely quiet.
Because everyone understood.
Sometimes guilt becomes unbearable.
Sometimes people reach a point where they can no longer live with themselves.
---
Michael wiped his eyes.
Then pushed the hard drive toward Didi.
"This belongs to you now."
She stared at it.
The object looked ordinary.
Yet it contained years of secrets.
Years of lies.
Years of corruption.
Years of pain.
And perhaps...
Years of justice waiting to happen.
---
Before anyone could say another word, the sound of engines echoed outside.
All three froze.
One engine.
Then another.
Then another.
Multiple vehicles.
Approaching quickly.
Michael's face immediately turned pale.
"No."
Adrian stood.
"What is it?"
Michael looked toward the church entrance.
Pure terror filled his eyes.
"They followed me."
The words sent fear through the room.
Because if Michael was right...
They weren't alone anymore.
Outside, several black SUVs pulled into the church compound.
Doors opened.
Men stepped out.
Armed with determination.
And possibly much worse.
Inside the church, Didi tightened her grip on the hard drive.
Because she knew one thing.
No matter what happened next...
The truth was finally within reach.
And some people were willing to do anything to stop it.
