Episode 55 The Storm Begins For the rest of the day, Didi could not focus on anything. Michael's warning kept replaying in her mind. "Victor knows everything." "He's preparing something." The words felt like a dark cloud hanging over her future. She sat quietly in her classroom while the lecturer explained the day's lesson, but her mind was somewhere else. What was Victor planning? How much did he know? And how far was he willing to go? --- After class, Adrian arrived at the university. The moment he saw Didi's face, he knew something was wrong. "What happened?" Didi told him everything. The near accident. Michael's sudden appearance. The warning. Every detail. As she spoke, Adrian's expression became increasingly serious. "This isn't good." "No." Didi nodded. "It isn't." --- For several moments, neither spoke. Finally Adrian sighed. "I think it's time we involve the authorities again." Didi looked at him. "You think they'll help?" "They helped expose the first conspiracy." Silence. "They might help stop the next one." --- That evening, Adrian arranged a meeting with an investigator who had previously worked on the corruption case. The investigator listened carefully. When Adrian finished, the man leaned back in his chair. His expression revealed concern. Real concern. "Victor Blackwood." The investigator repeated the name slowly. "You know him?" The man nodded. "Everyone in my profession knows him." The room became quiet. Then the investigator added: "The problem is proving anything." --- Didi frowned. "What do you mean?" The investigator sighed. "Victor is smart." Very smart. "For decades he's stayed several steps ahead of everyone." Silence. "He never signs documents personally." Another silence. "He never gives direct orders." And another. "People take the fall for him." --- The explanation chilled Didi. Victor wasn't simply powerful. He was careful. Dangerously careful. --- Meanwhile, across the city, Victor sat inside his private office. A large screen displayed information. Photographs. Reports. Names. One image caught his attention. Didi. --- Victor studied her photograph carefully. For months she had been an inconvenience. A nuisance. Nothing more. But now she had become something else. A threat. And threats had to be dealt with. --- A knock interrupted his thoughts. "Come in." His assistant entered. "The preparations are complete." Victor smiled. "Excellent." Everything was moving according to plan. --- Episode 56 The Scholarship Scandal The following week began normally. At least, that's what Didi believed. She attended lectures. Submitted assignments. Spent time with her mother. Nothing seemed unusual. Nothing seemed wrong. Then everything changed. --- On Wednesday morning, students across campus began whispering. Groups gathered together. Phones were everywhere. People looked shocked. Confused. Some even looked angry. --- Didi immediately sensed something was wrong. As she walked across campus, she noticed students staring at her. Whispering. Pointing. The attention made her uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable. --- Then Amaka came running. Her face was pale. "Didi." "What happened?" Amaka hesitated. Then handed her a phone. "Look." --- Didi stared at the screen. And felt her entire body go cold. An article had gone viral online. The headline read: "Scholarship Recipient Accused of Fraud and Manipulation." Below the headline was her photograph. --- For a moment, she couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. Couldn't move. --- "What is this?" Amaka shook her head. "I don't know." But Didi knew. Or at least she suspected. Victor. --- The article contained numerous accusations. False accusations. Claims that Didi had manipulated scholarship officials. Claims that she had received special treatment. Claims that she had hidden information during the selection process. Every accusation was a lie. Yet the damage was immediate. --- By afternoon, the story had spread throughout the university. Students discussed it everywhere. Some believed it. Others didn't. But the rumors continued growing. --- Didi sat alone in the cafeteria. The noise around her seemed distant. For years she had fought to earn respect. Now strangers were questioning everything. --- Her phone rang. It was her mother. "Didi?" The older woman's voice trembled. "I saw something online." Immediately, Didi's heart broke. The last thing she wanted was for her mother to worry. "It's not true." "I know." Her mother answered softly. "Because I know my daughter." Tears immediately filled Didi's eyes. --- Later that day, the university administration contacted her. They wanted a meeting. Immediately. --- The walk to the administrative building felt endless. Every step increased her anxiety. Every thought made things worse. What if they believed the accusations? What if she lost her scholarship? What if everything she worked for disappeared? --- Inside the conference room, several officials sat waiting. The atmosphere was tense. Very tense. --- One of them finally spoke. "Didi, serious allegations have surfaced." She nodded. "I've seen them." The official continued. "We are launching an investigation." The statement hit her hard. "But I've done nothing wrong." "We understand." The woman replied calmly. "However, we must follow procedure." --- Procedure. The word echoed painfully. Didi knew how procedures worked. Years earlier, procedures had destroyed her father's life. Now they were threatening hers. --- That evening, Adrian found her sitting alone outside her apartment. She looked defeated. For the first time in months, hopelessness had returned. --- Without speaking, Adrian sat beside her. Several moments passed. Then Didi finally spoke. "What if they take everything away?" Adrian looked at her. "They won't." "You don't know that." "No." He admitted honestly. "I don't." Silence. Then he gently took her hand. "But I know you." --- Didi looked at him. And for the first time that day, she felt slightly stronger. --- The following morning brought another shock. The story had reached national media. Television stations began reporting it. Social media exploded. The controversy grew larger by the hour. --- Meanwhile, inside his luxurious office, Victor Blackwood watched everything unfold. The news reports. The public reaction. The investigation. Every piece of it. --- A satisfied smile crossed his face. This was only the beginning. The first move. The opening strike. --- His assistant entered quietly. "The plan is working." Victor nodded. "Good." Then he stood and walked toward the window. Below him, the city continued its daily routine. Completely unaware of the war unfolding in the shadows. --- Victor's eyes narrowed. For months, Didi had been growing stronger. Becoming more influential. More confident. More dangerous. Now he intended to change that. --- Because sometimes destroying a person's reputation is more effective than destroying the person. And Victor Blackwood understood that better than anyone. --- Far below, Didi stared at the city lights from her apartment window. The same city. The same streets. The same dreams. Yet suddenly everything felt uncertain again. --- She had survived poverty. She had survived heartbreak. She had survived injustice. But this challenge felt different. Because this time, the attack wasn't aimed at her future. It was aimed at her character. Her integrity. Her name. --- And as she stood there in silence, one question haunted her mind: Would the truth save her again? Or was Victor finally winning? End of Episodes 55 & 56. To Be Continued...
