Episode 21 A Dangerous Game Didi stood motionless long after Vanessa drove away. The document was still in her hand. The paper felt heavier than it should. Her father's debt. Vanessa's family. The threat hidden beneath every word. Everything felt like a trap. Slowly, she folded the document and placed it inside her bag. Then she began walking. The city around her seemed unusually loud. Cars passed. Vendors shouted. People laughed. Yet none of it reached her properly. Her mind remained trapped in the conversation she had just had. "Walk away from Adrian." The words echoed repeatedly. By the time she reached home, her headache had become unbearable. Mama immediately noticed something was wrong. "What happened?" Didi forced a smile. "Nothing." Her mother narrowed her eyes. "You inherited that lie from me." Despite herself, Didi laughed. But it disappeared quickly. Mama's expression became serious. "What happened?" For a moment Didi considered hiding everything. Then she remembered how many secrets had already damaged their lives. Carefully, she explained everything. Vanessa. The debt. The threats. Every detail. The more Mama listened, the paler she became. When Didi finished, silence filled the room. Finally Mama spoke. "I was afraid of this." Didi frowned. "You knew?" Mama sighed heavily. "Not everything." "But enough." She sat down slowly. "The debt existed." Didi stared at her. "You knew?" "Your father told me years ago." Shock filled Didi's face. "Why didn't you tell me?" "Because there was nothing you could do." Mama looked exhausted. "The debt became one of the reasons everything fell apart." Didi lowered her head. So many years. So many secrets. It felt like every answer only created more questions. That night she barely slept. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Adrian. Then Vanessa. Then her father. By morning, she was emotionally drained. Unfortunately, the day was only beginning. --- At the hospital, Adrian sat in his office reviewing reports. Yet his concentration was terrible. Every few minutes his thoughts drifted toward Didi. The scholarship interview. Her smile. Her determination. Without realizing it, he smiled. A knock interrupted him. "Come in." The door opened. Vanessa entered. Immediately his smile disappeared. "We need to talk." Her voice sounded unusually serious. Adrian leaned back. "About what?" "About Didi." His expression hardened. "What about her?" Vanessa walked closer. "You've become very interested in her." "And?" "You barely know her." Adrian remained calm. "I know enough." Vanessa laughed bitterly. "No, you don't." Something inside Adrian became alert. There was something strange about her behavior. Something calculated. "What are you trying to say?" Vanessa removed a file from her handbag. Then placed it on his desk. Adrian frowned. "What is this?" "Information." His expression darkened immediately. "You investigated her?" Vanessa crossed her arms. "I protected you." "I didn't ask you to." The tension inside the room increased instantly. For several seconds neither spoke. Then Adrian opened the file. The more he read, the more his jaw tightened. Family history. Financial problems. Her father's disappearance. Old debts. Everything. Finally Adrian closed the file. Slowly. Carefully. Dangerously. "You hired someone to investigate her." Vanessa remained silent. "Why?" "Because you're making a mistake." The answer only made things worse. Adrian stood. For the first time, genuine anger appeared in his eyes. "You had no right." Vanessa looked shocked. "No right?" "You crossed a line." Silence. Then Vanessa spoke quietly. "I'm trying to protect you." "No." Adrian's voice was firm. "You're trying to control me." The words hit harder than any insult. For a brief moment, Vanessa looked hurt. Then the hurt became anger. Pure anger. "She isn't right for you." Adrian laughed. A cold laugh. "And who decides that?" Vanessa had no answer. Because deep down, she knew she was losing. And she hated losing. --- Meanwhile, Didi received an unexpected visitor. A knock sounded at her apartment door. When she opened it, her heart nearly stopped. Her father stood outside. For several seconds neither spoke. Then he looked down. "I know you don't want to see me." Didi remained silent. "I came because there are things you deserve to know." Immediately her guard went up. "What things?" His face became serious. "About Vanessa's family." Didi's heart skipped. "What about them?" He glanced around nervously. "Can I come in?" After a long hesitation, she stepped aside. Inside, Mama looked equally surprised. The atmosphere became tense immediately. No one knew how to behave. No one knew what to say. Finally, her father spoke. "The debt wasn't ordinary." Didi frowned. "What does that mean?" "It means someone wanted me to fail." Silence. Then he continued. "Years ago, I worked for a company connected to Vanessa's family." Didi exchanged a look with her mother. Neither interrupted. "There was corruption." His voice lowered. "I discovered things I wasn't supposed to discover." The room became silent. Didi's pulse quickened. "What things?" His hands trembled slightly. "Financial fraud." For several moments nobody moved. Then he said something that changed everything. "The debt was created to silence me." The words landed like a bomb. Didi stared at him. Unable to process what she had just heard. Her father looked exhausted. "I should have fought." His voice cracked. "But I was afraid." The room fell completely silent. For the first time in years, Didi saw genuine shame in his eyes. And for the first time, she wondered if there was more to the story than she had ever known. --- Episode 22 The Truth Begins To Surface The following morning felt different. The air itself seemed heavier. After her father's revelation, Didi could not stop thinking. If what he said was true... Then Vanessa's family was hiding something. Something powerful enough to destroy lives. Something dangerous enough to force a man into hiding. The thought terrified her. And fascinated her at the same time. That afternoon, she received a call. Adrian. For a moment she hesitated. Then answered. "Hello." "Can we meet?" His voice sounded unusual. Serious. Concerned. Immediately she knew something was wrong. "Where?" "The hospital garden." "I'll come." --- When Didi arrived, Adrian was already waiting. The moment she saw him, she noticed the tension in his face. Something had happened. "Adrian." He stood. For several seconds neither spoke. Then he handed her a file. Didi looked confused. "What is this?" She opened it. And immediately froze. It was the same investigation Vanessa had shown him. Every detail of her life. Every struggle. Every painful memory reduced to paper. Embarrassment washed over her. Followed quickly by anger. "She investigated me?" Adrian nodded. "I'm sorry." "You knew?" "Only recently." Didi closed the file. Her hands were shaking. Not from fear. From humiliation. She felt exposed. Violated. Like someone had stolen pieces of her life without permission. "I didn't ask for any of this." "I know." His voice softened. "Didi, look at me." Reluctantly she did. "What Vanessa did was wrong." Silence. Then Adrian continued. "And it changes nothing." Her eyes widened slightly. "What?" "I don't care about your background." The words caught her off guard. "I don't care about money." He took a step closer. "I don't care where you live." Didi's heart started beating faster. The garden suddenly felt too quiet. Too intimate. Too dangerous. Because she knew where this conversation was heading. And she wasn't sure she was ready. Adrian looked directly into her eyes. "What matters is who you are." For a moment, neither moved. Neither breathed. The distance between them felt smaller than ever. Then Didi stepped back. Not because she wanted to. Because she was afraid. Afraid of hoping. Afraid of believing. Afraid of being hurt. Adrian noticed immediately. Pain flashed briefly across his face. But he understood. Life had taught Didi to protect herself. Trust did not come easily. Especially not after everything she had endured. Before either could speak again, a familiar voice interrupted. "How touching." Both turned. Vanessa. Standing several feet away. Watching. Smiling. But there was no warmth in that smile. Only hostility. Only calculation. Only war. Slowly she walked toward them. Elegant. Confident. Dangerous. The atmosphere changed instantly. Vanessa stopped directly in front of Didi. Then she spoke. "You should ask your father what really happened." Didi's stomach tightened. "What do you mean?" Vanessa's smile widened. "He isn't as innocent as he claims." Silence. Then she looked at Adrian. "Neither is your father." The words shocked both of them. For the first time, uncertainty appeared in Adrian's eyes. Vanessa noticed. And smiled. Because confusion was exactly what she wanted. Chaos. Doubt. Division. She wanted all of it. And judging by their expressions... Her plan was working. As she walked away, she left them with one final sentence. "The truth destroys everyone eventually." Neither Didi nor Adrian spoke after she left. Because deep down, both of them felt the same thing. Fear. Not of Vanessa. Not of the debt. Not even of the past. But of the truth that was slowly coming. A truth powerful enough to change everything they thought they knew. End of Episodes 21 & 22
