Evelina's heart dropped to her stomach. This couldn't be real. No, no...this had to be a prank or some stupid joke.
The office door creaked open and Cassiel stepped in slowly, the sound of his shoes clicking against the marble floor.
"Forgot something," he muttered, not noticing Evelina's frozen state at first, then...his eyes landed on the screen.
His face hardened immediately, and he stomped angrily towards Evelina. When he reached the desk, he slammed the laptop shut, while clenching his jaw.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He yelled angrily at her.
Evelina couldn't speak or move. She just opened her mouth slightly but no words came out. She looked up at Cassiel, but she still couldn't say anything. She had seen too much.
Her throat went dry and tears started to form at the corners of her eyes as she stared at him, her heart racing. "Who... who are you?" She whispered, clearly frightened.
Cassiel's brow furrowed. "I asked you a question," he said again, but his voice sounded lower this time.
Evelina took a small step back, but he quickly grabbed her by the wrist before she could go any further. His grip around her wrist was firm, like he was in control of her.
"I—I didn't mean to..." Evelina began, her voice cracking.
"You shouldn't have seen that," Cassiel responded flatly. He dragged her gently, as he grabbed the laptop in his other arm.
"Cassiel—what's going on?" Aiden said, standing down the hallway. His brows furrowed in concern as he tried to make sense of the situation.
Cassiel didn't respond, instead, he opened the back door of the black SUV and gently shoved Evelina instead.
"Sir—" Aiden tried again.
"Drive," Cassiel ordered, climbing in beside Evelina.
Aiden sighed and got in the front before the car started moving.
The ride was silent and long. Evelina sat stiffly, wiping tears off her cheek but Cassiel's expression remained unreadable.
"Boss, please," Aiden said quietly. "She didn't mean to, let her go."
"Enough," Cassiel said.
Evelina's heart started pounding again, even worse than before. Aiden's pleas only made it worse. She was terrified of who Cassiel really was and was scared that he might actually kill her. She didn't want to die...not like this, not yet. Ohh, Amelia...she thought of her sister and began sobbing again.
When they finally stopped, Cassiel opened the door and pulled her out. He led her down a hallway, and then into a dim room which lit up after a while.
Evelina gasped.
It was the same man from the video. He was barely alive, tied up, with blood dripping down his shirt.
"What is this…" she gasped, stepping back.
Cassiel rolled up his sleeves, while Aiden stood quietly in the corner.
A large man walked out from nowhere and handed Cassiel a chisel. He walked up to the prisoner without saying a word. Slowly, he lifted the man's chin up, and without a second thought, he cut off his tongue.
Evelina screamed in horror. Her knees gave out, but Cassiel caught her before she hit the floor. He wiped his hands calmly, tossing the towel aside.
She sobbed, trying to pull away from him.
“Please,” she cried. “Let me go.”
Cassiel crouched in front of her, his hand gently cupping her chin to make her look him directly in the eyes.
"This is what happens when someone loses my trust," he whispered. "You don’t want that, do you?"
Evelina shook her head, her lips trembling.
"Good," he said, brushing a sweaty strand of hair from her face.
"Why show me this?" She trembled.
Cassiel's lips parted slightly, staring at Evelina's lips then back to her eyes. "Because I need to know if you can handle who I really am and if I can trust you."
Evelina's lips parted, but no words came out.
"I want all of you," he murmured. "Your loyalty, your silence, and your trust."
Evelina nodded quickly, too scared to think and too scared to talk. Right now, survival was what mattered.
Cassiel's lips curled into a slow, dark smirk. He raised his hand and gently brushed his thumb over her trembling lips.
"Perfect," he whispered. "Then we understand each other."
Evelina was his now whether she liked it or not, and there was no turning back.
