I notice that many of the group I am trying to save can't escape. They aren't leveled high enough to resist.
Ready, hold, fire.
*Thwoosh*
"Aaaaahh, aaaaahh" The screams were terrifying. Like an injured banshee. The flames start spreading from the middle of his chest to the rest of his torso. I wonder what is the difference between these black flames and regular flames.
We need to test more. As I get ready to turn around Barg walks up to the screaming, burning, banshee named Derek. As Barg began to play with the body, I started to have strange questions appear in my head. Is he gonna eat him? No way right?
I look over to the crowd of survivors. If I am gonna survive in a group should it be this one? That is the question. They don't seem too strong. A couple of ability users and some pretty decent shooters. I guess it is better than nothing for now.
"Before you ask, my name is Tom. You guys can stay in the restaurant over there for now." The fear never left their faces for a second.
"Thank you, Tom. If it wasn't for you we may not have made it out safely." The guy I assume is Charles began to speak first. "Everybody inside we can decompress from there." As I turn back around to look at Barg(Praying), I notice he seems to be sucking the black flames away from the corpse. Is this another use?
Barg VI - Barg IX
+1Kp
+1 Subordinate
Derek (Zombie) - Airbender
+1Kp
Woah, three levels. Why didn't I know that was possible? Such a waste. A new subordinate As well. So he isn't dead. Right, as I thought of the body simply standing back up. Its skin seemed to roll back as a skeleton began to drag its way out of the body. It then just stood there.
Ok, this world is just getting weirder and weirder. Can I give it commands? I try to communicate with it since it is listed as my subordinate. Only basic communication. It took a while but in the end it began to patrol around the plaza for security. I then asked Barg to do the same. Haggling with Barg was a lot more complicated. I had to barter with slabs of sausage.
As I entered the restaurant that I sent the group into they all went quiet. There are only 8 people, 9 if you count the baby. All adults. "If you would like to stay here you may. I stay in a different shop with my dog. If I may ask, what was that all about."
"I am sorry we brought you into this, young man. Thanks for your help. A lovers quarrel is a deadly one at times. My name is Taylor." Taylor then went on to introduce everyone that was there.
Charles and Brianna the lovers on the run. Taylor is a former marine along with his pregnant wife Elise. Kira, Matthew and Dave were all nurses at the hospital they were hiding out at. John was simply a straggler, though he was a mechanic. John and Charles are both able to manipulate the earth and Matthew can manipulate sand. Kira can manipulate Ink and no one yet knows what Brianna can do but they know that she evolved.
After all of the introductions, I then give them their space. Sitting in my own space, I start to analyze the current situation. I have many pieces that I can now research. We need to figure out ways to advance in power. I am almost positive that the rest of the world is doing the same.
The troubles of the world weigh heavily on my mind as my eyelids begin to droop so low.
When I awake I notice the other group forming out a task squad of sorts. More than likely going out for resources.
"Tom, we are going out to see what else we can find, but not everyone can go. If you aren't going anywhere would you mind keeping an eye on the others." Taylor seems to always be a cheerful person. I have yet to see him without a smile even when the world is in such a state. How?
"Sure as long as they are willing to answer my questions. I am trying to find out how this whole ability thing works. I noticed in last night's fight none of you seem to have any levels when it comes to your powers. When you are out, any animal or unknown creature you find bring it back. They have ingredients that can strengthen us."
"Oh, sure. You know how to level up? We'll definitely bring you anything we can find. By the way, what is your ability if you don't mind me asking?" You could see the hesitance in his eyes. It is to be expected. Should I be honest? Should I lie?
"Well, it is hard to explain. My ability is a form of extreme learning. Before you ask, the flames you saw aren't my own. They are in a way borrowed." I did not lie. I just won't tell the whole truth. There really isn't a point to lie yet so for now I will extend this olive branch.
"Extreme learning? Hmm, is that why you one study this so badly? No problem. I am not too good in the brains department but if you need help do remember we have trained healers. And borrowed from who?" Right as he asked, Barg lit a fire and began to strut out of the room. "Oh" Oh, indeed. Now that I think about it, Barg and the other dogs couldn't emit the fire out of their bodies at first.
Levels.
When they leave I invite the rest over so I can tighten up security. I send the skeleton and Barg out for patrol as well. Since it is broad daylight and we can watch all exits, I tell them to patrol the neighborhood with a sign on Derek's neck to tell survivors to come to the plaza. I then order Barg to attack all beasts on sight and return them here.
The only people that stayed behind were the women. Kira, Elise, and Brianna.
"Hello, Tom. Once again thank you for your help and hospitality. How can we help?" This time it was Kira who spoke. In my opinion I would say that she was the most beautiful of the three.
"No problem, I could use some extra hands. As I told Taylor before they left, my ability mainly pertains to learning so having others to help would be great. To start I will just ask a few questions. Kira, I will start with you if you don't mind. Could you please explain to me the process of your awakening?" It took 5 hours in the end, just to hear their stories. Kira and the other nurse awoke in the hospital. She had the weakest ability when it came to combat so she had to stand behind others for a while.
