Chapter 3 This was not possible. What was going on? No. This was not true. No. No! What was the meaning of this? “What are you two doing?” I grimaced, walking to the couch they were sitting on. When I found their hands intertwined I felt disgusted by what I was looking at. “I guess you got the memo late,” said Silvia with an eye roll. The urge to smack her was too much I could not hold myself back. I rushed to hit her when Greg came between us, stopping my extended hand midway before shoving me back roughly. “You touch her and you will have me to deal with,” my husband threatened which even made the entire situation worse. They held hands again which had me sneering. “Will you two split up immediately? What’s the meaning of you two holding hands?” “That’s no way to speak to our guests,” I heard my mother speak behind me as I turned to see her with a smile on her face while she waved the maids to drop the drinks in their possession in front of the guests. “Mother, what are you doing?” I asked in shock as she used a hand to push me out of the way, before settling into a seat. “Here you go, Greg,” she said with a smile, pointing to the drinks and food. “You too Silvia. Eat up. And Greg, I’m sure Silvia must have tried to help you in various ways and I am sorry for what Jane here has done to you. She is but a trouble child but we will have her straightened up right away.” “Thank you very much ma’am,” responded Greg. “I know having a child like Jane can be a handful so I don’t blame you for anything.” They spoke like I wasn’t even there which had me fuming in anger. I was taken aback by such words. What stupid words were these? “Mother, what are you...¦” But I could not finish my statement as she stood up and slapped me across the cheek which had me reeling backwards. I had not expected that from her. “What did I do?!” I yelled, holding my cheek. “Why would you hit me?” “You stupid girl! You show up and disrespect our guest, then you don’t stop there, you also question my actions? Your rudeness almost cost us everything. Greg here is not just a guest but family. How did I give birth to such disappointment.” I was confused at what she was talking about. “Mum, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I sighed. She rolled her eyes as she pointed to Silvia to stand up and narrate what I had done. “I’ll repeat everything that happened,” Silvia said to her feet as my father walked in with his arms folded in anger. He was fuming. “I was with Greg in the meeting room with some investors about to sign a contract when she entered and disrupted the meeting we were having with some investors, thereby costing the company billions.” “Silvia!” I yelled in shock but I couldn’t talk because my father cleared his throat as a warning for me to speak again and feel his wrath. I was not in the mood to fight and my mothers smack still hurt my cheek so I kept quiet. Silvia went on with her lies as I stood before her and watched as she narrated and explained events which never happened. Where I lost it was when she said I had shoved the investors out and they vowed to not come back. “Oh you are such a dirty liar and a b***h!” I yelled. I looked at my approaching father. “You know, instead of attacking me, you should ask her the credibility of her story.” He stopped and looked at Silvia who smiled at me before pointing to Greg who nodded with shocking words. “It’s true,” the man said as I gasped. I was shocked beyond words. “Greg? Are you going to lie against me?” I expected my husband to at least fight for me, but he looked straight into my parents eyes and said the most devastating words to them. “Silvia has explained everything just as it should be explained. She tells nothing but the truth.” I fell onto a couch in exhaustion, watching my parents insult me and curse me. I was done. How could I come back from this? I could not even tell my own side of the story as they wouldn’t allow me to talk. All they wanted was for me to apologize for my actions which I did begrudgingly. “Now that I have apologized, can I explain myself?” I leaned forward, ready to expose the frauds but they still wouldn’t hear it. “Jane,” my father started with a sigh. “You have brought upon this family dishonor and disgrace. I can only tell you that this family does not want such disgrace and you have single handedly embarrassed us without even trying that hard.” “Dad, I…” “Silence!” he yelled, cutting me from saying anything. “Don’t you talk when I am talking.” I could see Silvia smiling at me which had me fuming. I could not say what she had done because no one would listen to me. Even Greg whom I expected to be apologetic wasn’t. He sat there, his eyes not even focused on me but on his phone, not feeling the slightest concern for what was going on. He was heartless. “Now like I was saying,” continued my father, the room becoming silent. “Due to the dishonor you brought to the family, I will have no choice but to disown you and cut you off from the family funds and the family will.” “Dad!” “All properties with you as the heir will be shifted to your sister. I will not have anything to do with anyone who hurts family and you have hurt your husband and your sister. Especially after you hurt Greg, who do you think you are?” I pleaded but my words fell on deaf ears. He was done talking as he pointed to the door. In anger, I stormed out of the house, plopping into the car to drive home. I would wait there until Greg was back so we would talk about his actions, however, when I drove into the compound, I found my bags and luggage outside the building. If I had to recount my embarrassing moments, this would be at the top. This was something I didn’t know would be up to this level. I parked into the garage, getting out to see how scratched the bags were. They had clearly been thrown out with brute force. He didn’t care about me anymore.
