A smaller crowd had gathered around her bed. Lili looked around in the ward with a woozy head. She didn’t even know where she was at first, but a few moments later she kind of managed to put the picture together. The ambulance took her straight to the hospital from the station, where she got a whole load of painkillers. The drugs sedated her so much that she had only just now woken up. Fortunately, this time the nightmares had avoided her so she could relax in peace.
“Where’s Carmen?” she asked, but her mouth was far too dry to form any proper words.
