Episode 3: The Secret Meeting

Lila woke up early, her mind busy with everything she had to do at the bakery and the village fair coming soon. Still, she couldn’t stop thinking about the man she had seen before.
After mixing and kneading dough for the morning bread, she stepped outside to water her little herb garden. The fresh air and the green plants usually helped her feel calm. But today, her eyes caught sight of the man walking down the street again. There was something about him that made her curious.
She decided to follow him quietly, staying a little behind so he wouldn’t notice. He walked slowly but with purpose, heading toward the old bookstore on the corner of the street.
When he reached the bookstore, another man came out from around the corner and they began to talk. Lila stayed close but hidden, trying to listen. She couldn’t hear everything because their voices were soft, but she clearly caught the name “Ethan.”
A small smile came to her face. She now knew the man’s name — Ethan. That was something, at least.
Suddenly, Ethan looked right toward where Lila was standing. She quickly turned her eyes to the colorful books displayed in the window. Ethan gave a small nod, almost like a greeting, before he and the other man walked away.
Lila felt a little better. She didn’t know much yet, but now she had a name and a chance to learn more.
