“Thank you Nina for always looking after them” I said appreciating Nina.
Nina Joseph was my friend back in Margo city but had left Margo city years ago and moved down here because of the opportunities of her career.
I moved in with her when I got here and she had agreed to babysit my kids whenever she was available.
She had looked after Mabel and Molly since they were babies. She is best referred to as their second mom. I was their birth mom, but Nina raised them. “You are most welcome”Nina replied.
She soon said goodbye to us and went out for her shoot, she was a model, she had no kids or a husband, She had once said it would affect her career and I agreed to it.
She is done with the babysitting job the moment I come back from work.
I got a job with a company and I have been employed to work as a shoe sketch designer. I have been working there after Mabel and Molly were born, but then it seemed my time in the company had come to an end.
The company’s owner had died from a heart attack and his children had sold the company out to a new owner, and all the employees had been paid off including me. I was paid five times my salary, and my appointment canceled.
“Molly, Mabel, we are leaving for Margo City tomorrow” I broke the news to them. They both paused and next jumped up in excitement. “That means we would get to meet Daddy?” They asked rhetorically and almost at the same time.
I stopped smiling, their question, how was I supposed to answer that. I had told them once when they asked about their dad.
I simply told them that their dad was in Margo City. But that was supposed to be a simple distraction I gave them back then. How would I know who their daddy is when I do not even know the name of the man I had a one night stand with, or even how he looked facially.
“Yes my babies hopefully” I replied, forcing a smile on. The next day, I arrived at the airport from England to Margo City. It's a few hours flight.
I pushed my luggage with Molly sitting on it with one hand and the other hand holding my daughter who decided to walk with me. Molly and Mabel’s looks attracted a lot of smiles and a lot of waves of hands, Some blew them kisses and those close to them would take their little hands in theirs.
I was long used to this charm that they carry wherever they appeared. They are cute and adorable, though but I did not want to believe that their appearance was capable of taking away the breath of ten out of twelve people they came across.
I ailed a cab to take us to my father’s house I sighed. I had searched all night for cheap apartments and all I saw was either too small for us or too expensive.
since I could not find any apartment suitable for us, I decided to go back to my father’s abandoned house. I was glad at least I got a place to put up with my children.
Few minutes later, we got to my father’s abandoned two bedroom bungalow. I settled into my not so new house, it needed a lot of cleaning, dusting and washing, I had to hire people to help At least so we can get a comfortable place to live and not fall sick.
For the next five days I kept sending emails and messages to various companies who placed an advert. I hope I get a new job soon. I need to enroll my kids in a new school, an average middle class school.
I bought second hand cheap furniture since my dads furnitures had suffered in the hands of termites, and I gave my new apartment a fairly good looking taste. Molly and Mabel were happy and said the apartment was the best.
The next day, I was called for an interview and by the next morning I got a call that I was hired and could start immediately.
It was a small company just trying to find its stand but they told me that they hope I grow with them. The salary was not much but it was better than nothing. It's a good start and I was not ready to despise the day of a little beginning. I accepted the job and was to resume the next day.
I asked around and found a playground more like a crèche where I could put Mabel and molly when I go to work. That settled. I sighed and looked forward to my resumption the next day.
I resumed work and everything went well for the first five days. On the sixth day, my boss called me to his office and told me that a powerful head in Margo City was coming to our company. If he is impressed with the way we run things, he might invest in us and make us partners.
This would be a stepping stone their company had been looking forward to.
“You should ensure that you get yourself ready, prepared and punctual because we are going to present you as the company's head of shoe sketch designers”. Mr Alex said. And I replied “okay” and prepared my mind for the meeting just incase the powerful head asked me some important questions, I didn’t want to ruin the chances of helping this company grow.
After lunch hour, the secretary came to me and said “I hope you are ready? He’s here” in low tone. “Who?” I asked, just then I remembered the powerful head in Margo City was coming to our company.
I looked at myself from head to toe and then looked out of the window.
I saw a fleet of cars arriving and a Limousine in the middle. They had arrived and were parking the cars in the parking lot.
The man’s presence already attracted a crowd and many employees were peeping and so was I.
Journalist rushed into the company’s premises with their microphone and within three minutes the whole place was overcrowded.
My boss called me to be join them in the conference room. “s**t” I said mumbling. I quickly composed myself and walked smartly.
My dress was not the expensive one but at least it was decent, clean and well ironed too. I was in the conference room with a few other managers but my boss was not present, he had gone to welcome the Powerful head.
Soon, six men walked into the conference room all dressed in black suits, white shirts and matching striped ties.
There were three men in suits on both side and a opening was created in the middle where a tall slim figure walked through. As soon as he stepped into the conference room, there was silence everywhere, his presence seemed to carry a Godly aura and the atmosphere in the room seemed to change from the ordinary.
