22 At Professor Ng’s proclamation, chaos broke out. Tiffaneigh dove under Doug’s desk, pulling the coat from the back of his chair over her as if it were bulletproof. He protested loudly, trying to talk to his uncle at the same time. Professor Ng shot back into Sheriff Matthews’s office and slammed the door. Meanwhile, I stood in the midst of it all thinking that psychic powers would be more useful if they helped me avoid situations like this one. Professor Ng thought Tiffaneigh and I wanted to kill him?
