My blood curdled. “Olive? What’s wrong?”
Instead of answering, she shuddered. Her eyes rolled back in her head. Racing forward, I yanked her hand off that rocking horse, desperate to break the connection.
“Are you okay?”
She didn’t answer. She fainted.
“Olive!” With a speed I didn’t know I could manage, I dropped her hand and leaped forward, barely catching her before she hit the ground. “Help! Maria? Sam? Anyone?”
The store was deserted at this hour, but if I got lucky, maybe Olive’s wife wouldn’t have left for work yet. Still holding Olive upright, I glanced at the clock on the wall.
