“So you don’t know when she’s coming back then?” asked Kay. “No,” Nick replied. The one word answer felt inadequate, but it summed up his numbness about the situation. “What does she do when she’s in London?” “Bloody hell, lots of questions Kay.” The words came out more pointedly than Nick had meant. Kay wasn’t expecting it and reacted hastily and with more heat than she would have intended also. “God, I’m sorry. I’m just keeping the conversation going while we have a drink Nick.
