She needed to steel herself for the evening to come. She decided that the tear she had wiped away was merely caused by the cold breeze. Suddenly, there was someone next to her, nudging her right elbow, and sharing the view towards the river. “Don’t do it lady.” Kay’s head spun to her right, and Nick was there, looking down at the water, then looking up briefly and smiling self-consciously before turning his eyes back to the river. Kay cried out: “Nick!” and flung her arms around his neck, surprising them both with the force and the joy of the embrace. Nick had to take a step back, with Kay’s arms linked round his neck.
