From time to time a dull thudding in his head intensified, making him wince. This was his punishment for a night out in London with his work mates. A double figure tally of pints, plus the curry and the Flaming Sambucas at the end of the night, before the last minute dash to Liverpool Street to get the last train home – all this added up to create the irregular but persistent hammering inside Lee’s skull. He had the bed to himself but he could hear Kay occasionally moving about downstairs.
