There was little in his own life that he could tell Justine about. Work was work, and then he stayed in most nights. They spoke of shared dreams, but he couldn’t be sure how long these would last, given the distance between them. And he found that he was completely incapable of mentioning the strange situation with the enigmatic married woman he had become friends with, and his soon-to-begin life as a private detective. How the hell could he ever explain that one? It sounded ridiculous in his own head, let alone across a distance of 10,000 miles, on a shaky phone connection. The only reason he had agreed to do it in the first place was to get some extra money that he could put towards traveling to Australia if necessary.
