School was over. The sun hung low, casting long shadows across the compound. Xenon had just stepped out of the clinic, her bruises cleaned and bandaged, though the sting in her muscles still lingered. Her eyes scanned the crowd until she spotted Alexa walking ahead, laughing with her newly found friends like nothing had happened.
Xenon’s jaw tightened. The sight of her sister smiling while she nursed wounds sent a fresh wave of heat through her chest. She adjusted her backpack and picked up her pace, weaving through the crowd until she was a few steps behind them.
"Alexa," she called calmly.
Her sister paused, turning around. The laughter faded from her lips the moment she saw Xenon’s face—scratched, swollen, but steady.
"We need to talk," Xenon said firmly.
Alexa glanced at her friends, then back at Xenon. For a second, she looked unsure, but she gave a slight nod. “Okay.”
They stepped aside from the path, just the two of them now. Xenon crossed her arms.
"You sent them." she squinted her eyes.lookig more intense,
"You think this is a game?" Xenon asked, her voice tight but even.
Xenon confronted her sister, her eyes burning with suspicion. "Did you send them? The girls in the bathroom?"
Alexa shook her head sharply, voice cold and clear. "No. I had nothing to do with that. Those bullies aren’t mine to control."
Xenon stared at her, searching for any hint of a lie, but Alexa’s expression was steady, almost indifferent.
"You expect me to believe that?" Xenon asked, frustration thick in her voice.
"I’m telling you the truth," Alexa said firmly. "If someone’s stirring trouble, it’s not me."
Xenon clenched her fists but nodded slowly. Whether Alexa was telling the truth or not, Xenon knew she had to be ready—because in their world, trust was a luxury.
Alexa glanced at Xenon with a cold, bitter smile. “You look like a mess,” she said sharply. “Like trash.” Her eyes narrowed as she stepped closer, voice dripping with disdain. “Maybe if you had just minded your own business, those pathetic imbeciles wouldn’t have gotten the chance to beat you up.”
Xenon’s fists clenched at her sides, heart pounding—not from the fight, but from the sting of her sister’s words. She wanted to lash out, to scream back...... wait why, she
can't scream , she couldn't waste her voice on her sister like that, it was of no use, but something in Alexa’s coldness froze her.
“You think this is my fault?” Xenon finally whispered, voice raw, still in her expressionless countenance “You’re supposed to have my back, but no you decide to make hee a living hell for me, what have I done , and for crying out loud, it's just our first day, why are you being so mean Alexa!" she said in a cold tone.
Alexa laughed—a harsh, bitter sound. “Back? You’re on your own. Maybe this was exactly what you needed. A lesson.”
The words hit harder than any punch. Xenon’s chest tightened, eyes blazing with hurt and fury. She stepped forward, voice low but fierce. “I don’t need your lessons. And I don’t need you anymore, if this is what you want, then,so be it" Xenon grimaced.
Without another word, Xenon turned and left. The fight wasn’t over, not with the bullies, but with her own sister. And this wound was deeper than any bruise.
Suddenly, rain started pouring down, cold drops hitting Xenon’s face. She muttered under her breath, “Just great.” Alexa and her friends had already ordered a ride home, leaving her stranded in the storm. She was wet, cold, and frustrated, the weight of the fight and her sister’s words pressing down on her.
Then Asher appeared, holding an umbrella. His eyes locked onto hers with concern, but Xenon barely noticed. The absolute irritation simmering inside her made his attention feel like an annoyance.
Without hesitation, Asher offered, “I can give you a ride. My car’s ready, thee driver will take you home"
Xenon snapped her head toward him, blunt and sharp. “I’m not interested Asher, please leave me alone!"
She didn’t want kindness, pity, or company. She just wanted to be alone like always.
Ignoring the umbrella, she stepped into the rain, letting it soak through her clothes. Muttering curses under her breath, she hurried toward the bus stop, feeling every cold drop like a reminder of the mess her day had become.
Asher watched silently, the distance growing between them as Xenon disappeared into the storm.
What a day.........
Xenon finally boarded the bus, the rain had already aggravated from tiny drops into heavy strokes of torrent , soaked and silent, her mind spinning. By the time she got home, the rain had stopped, but the storm inside her hadn't. Her parents met her at the door, shocked by her bruises and soaked clothes.
“What happened?” her mother asked, voice tight with worry.
Xenon didn’t hold back. She told them everything—the bathroom fight, the bullies, Alexa’s name being mentioned. Her voice was calm but sharp, every word edged with the pain she’d bottled up for too long.
Just then, Alexa walked in.
“That’s not true,” she said coldly. “I had nothing to do with any of it.”
Xenon turned to her, eyes blazing. Her pale skin looked even paler now, a white flame of anger flickering in her usually cold, grey eyes. “Of course you’d deny it,” she snapped. “You always do. You always want to look perfect. You want all the praise, all the attention, and I’m just the shadow you step on.”
Alexa scoffed, arguing back louder, more defensive with each word.
Their parents stood frozen, caught in the middle, unsure who to believe. Xenon’s voice cracked—not with weakness, but with years of quiet anger finally finding its voice again.
“Enough!” their father said firmly, his voice cutting through the shouting. Both girls froze. Their mother stepped forward, her tone softer but steady. “We’re not going to solve anything by yelling at each other.”
Xenon took a shaky breath, jaw clenched, while Alexa folded her arms, still defensive.
Their mother looked between them. “Xenon, I know you’ve been carrying a lot. We see that now. And Alexa—if you truly had no part in what happened, we need to understand that too. But this family can’t keep tearing each other apart.”
Their father added, “We want the truth, not blame. If either of you knows more than you’re saying, this is the time to be honest.”
Silence fell. Xenon looked away, her voice quiet. “I just want peace. I want to stop being treated like I’m invisible.”
Alexa’s expression shifted, guilt flickering across her face—but she said nothing.
Their mother gently placed a hand on Xenon’s shoulder. “We’ll get to the bottom of it. But for now, both of you need to rest. We’re a family, and we deal with problems together.”
Reluctantly, both girls backed down. The storm had eased, but the tension still lingered on the atmosphere.
Their father sighed deeply, looking at both daughters with a steady, serious gaze. “Listen to me, both of you. This family has always stood for strength, unity, and respect. We don’t tear each other down—we stand together.”
Xenon looked at him, breathing slowly, still tense. Alexa shifted uncomfortably, her arms still crossed.
“You’re sisters,” he continued, his voice firm but calm. “And whether you like it or not, you’re part of something bigger than your pride or arguments. You carry a name—a legacy—that’s been built on loyalty and discipline. I won’t let that fall apart because of rivalry or silence.”
He looked directly at Alexa. “If you know something, speak. If you’re innocent, act like it—with grace, not arrogance.”
Then he turned to Xenon. “And you—your pain is real, and we’ll face it. But don’t let anger define your strength. Use it to build, not destroy.”
There was a pause. The room was heavy with unspoken emotion.
“I expect both of you to start acting like a team. We face the world together, not as enemies under the same roof.”. 'wow what a speech '
Alexa stormed out in anger, Xavier and Celine exchanged glances at each other the turned back to Xenon.
"We won't always be here as we've become busy people, alot to shoulder, but be strong xenon, face your sister ok" Celine reassured.Xenon, urged by her parents to be strong, accepts the challenge to confront Alexa, ready to end their rivalry..........
Or elongate it........
