Shortly after the military parade, the Spanish government announced reforms to its government departments, eliminating some meaningless departments and merging departments with similar jurisdictions.
Following government reforms, the number of cabinet departments in Spain has also been streamlined. The army and navy departments have been merged into the Ministry of Defense, and the Grand Duke of Serrano has been promoted to Minister of Defense.
This is essential. Spain's navy was not strong to begin with, and there was no need to develop it in the short term (in fact, there was no money to develop it), so there was no need for a separate naval department.
