Chapter 22 The air in the bubble chamber smelled of salt and a sour ammonia that Nick thought came from the cluster of Cthulhu’s little cousins scattered along the ledge behind Vibeke and the other elf. His mouth was dry and tacky, and his bladder was beginning to get pretty insistent that it needed to be emptied. Despite that, he went straight to Vibeke and looked down into her intense eyes. “What is going on?” Nick said. A hissing and mechanical noise behind him made him turn to see the ramp retracting back up into the craft that had brought him. Apparently, the enforcers weren’t even going to bother getting out. Almost noiselessly the craft went back into the water with a gentle splash, submerged, and dove into the pool. In moments it was gone, and the only sounds were the squelching
