Chapter 4

1136 Words
Jake's POV Father was talking to me but I was barely listening. My foot still throbbed from how hard she had stomped on it earlier and damn, she was strong. I knew she didn't come here as an ordinary maid; she had a motive. She might try to hide it so easily, but her eyes gave her away. She wanted something and I had to find out what it was. “Are you even listening to me?” Father said with a frown as he rubbed the space between his brows and I shot him a sheepish smile. “You didn't come back to play, Jake.”“ Yeah, I kinda wish I did. I was having fun in Switzerland, Father. I mean, I'm not your only son, if anything, I'm not even your biological son. Adrian is here, he can take care of the company when you're gone.” I muttered with a slight frown, and Father threw his book at me, causing me to laugh softly. “I'd rather donate everything I have to charity than let Adrian take over my company. I would never rest in peace if Adrian takes over, you know how irresponsible he is.” Father mumbled in dissatisfaction and I hummed in response, remembering how angry I had been when I saw Adrian trying to mess with Elena. I didn't know why I protected her but I had to. She was definitely something else. The sound of something crashing echoed from the dining room and I rubbed my temples in frustration. “Is Cecilia causing trouble again?” Father said and I sighed, pushing myself off the chair as I made my way out of his room. “I'll go check it out,” I muttered and he waved at me as I made my way downstairs. My eyes widened when I saw Elena standing by the side with her head hung low, spaghetti pooled by the side, and broken glasses everywhere. “How dare you argue with me?” She yelled, her hands raised to hit no one else but Elena. “Put your hand down, Cecilia,” I said immediately before she could slap her and the moment her eyes met mine, she cowered back in fear. That's right. She knew who was in charge and she knew better than to mess with me. I stood in front of Elena, shielding her from Cecilia and I could see the dissatisfaction on her face as she pointed at Elena. “That witch tried to kill us with this disgusting meal she just made. Let us fire her this instant!” Cecilia cried out and I narrowed my eyes at her. Cecilia knew something. She wouldn't be trying so hard to get rid of a maid who only resumed work on the first day if she didn't know something.“I didn't, I swear, the food was perfect when I tasted it.” Elena defended herself, her eyes welling up with tears, but she quickly blinked them back, causing me to raise a brow at her. “How about we find out who's lying, hm?” I muttered and walked to the pile of spaghetti on the floor. Without thinking, I scooped some from the floor with my hand and placed it in my mouth while everyone watched in horror. My eyes widened when I realized who was telling the truth, and I straightened up, my eyes turning to stare at Elena, who looked scared as she stared at me. “Could you make this again? This is the most delicious pasta I've tasted in my life.” I said truthfully, savouring the taste of the now swallowed pasta in my mouth. Cecilia was such a b***h, she literally wasted such good food. “What? No! That's impossible! You're just being biased, Jake, you lying bastard!” She yelled and started to stomp on the spaghetti while I watched her with disgust. “Defending some bimbo, huh? What would Sandra say if she saw this?” She muttered with a smirk and my hands clenched into fists as I took a step forward towards her. “In whatever you do,” I started, my voice low and cold. “Don't you ever, I mean ever, talk about Sandra again.” I threatened and she cowered backward, turning on her heels and walking out of the dining room. “Let's order takeout, Mom!” Adrian suggested as he followed after Cecilia and I rubbed the space between my brows for the millionth time today. I was beyond frustrated. “I'm sorry, Mr Jake. You had to go through all that because of me.” I heard Elena say behind me, her head bowed and for some reason, I tended to soften up when I saw her like that. “You're apologizing for what you had no control over? Yeah, that's not cool. The energy you used to stomp me earlier, where did it disappear to?” I teased her and her face flushed at my words as she turned away instantly. She grabbed the broom and started to sweep the pasta away while I stood and watched. “Don't just stand there, help me.” She muttered with a frown as she threw the mop at me, and I raised a brow at her in confusion. “Excuse me?” “You didn't leave so I assumed you wanted to help me. So get to work. Hurry!” She ordered and for a moment, I scoffed, thinking she was joking. Until I was mopping the floor with her the next minute. “You know, if you used this kind of energy with Cecilia, she wouldn't be able to walk all over you anymore,” I muttered as she took the mop from me and then c****d a brow at me. “Thanks for the tip, Mr Jake.” She muttered with a roll of her eyes and I knew she was mocking me. She definitely was. But why didn't I hate it? “Can I ask you something?” She asked as I carried the broom for her to the kitchen and I hummed in response. “Is Sandra the lady in the picture I saw in your room earlier?” I froze. Everything in me stiffened as soon as she said that and it felt like all the blood in my body had drained from me. “You snooped through my things?” I asked in fury and she immediately shook her head. “No, no, I just—” “Are you insane??” I growled in anger as I grabbed her neck and she thrashed against me, clawing at my hands for me to let her go. But I didn't. Not when she messed with my Sandra.
