10 EMERALD LAKE Rain pelted on the tin roof, a much-needed downpour that had lasted all day. It was a sound that Chelsea found comforting, and she’d happily spent the day inside. A homemade stew in the slow cooker permeated throughout the cottage. The past hour had been spent on the computer studying online program studies from an area university. She gave up in frustration and sat back in her chair. The day Chelsea had been kidn*pped by Arne Jensen, she’d planned to relocate to Kelowna with her infant daughter, Sydney, where she’d been registered to take a Lab Technician Program. Twenty years later, she was aware that continuing along that vein, she’d be working with people on a daily basis. She wasn’t ready to work with people that closely at this point…maybe never.
