27 Gord stood at the wall with a pointer and tapped on the map. “Here you can see the new fire line.” Sydney sat back in her chair and observed the table. They had a full house today because they had reached the turning point they were waiting for. It was a big day with big news. They'd just come up from downstairs after Bea had bustled around the dining room serving a smorgasbord of breakfast foods and pots of coffee. “The winds died down and that gave them the time they needed. The fire is seventy-five percent controlled on both sides of the border. The Evacuation Alert will be called off for Stoney Creek. About seventy-five percent of the Osoyoos evacuees can return home. And it'll no longer be considered an interface fire.” The Mayor spoke up. “When do you think they can go home?”
