Before her mother took her last breath, she had made Ivy promise that the truth would never leave her lips, not even in death.
And in the ashes of that loss, Ivy had sworn an unbreakable vow – to dethrone her mad father, tear down his cabinet of psychopathic ministers, and make it her responsibility to protect her brother while he ascend the throne and rule the kingdom.
So why…
Why did Kael believe she had killed her?
“ How could you be so cruel?” he snarled.“ Killing an innocent, pregnant woman who had done you no wrong, just to secured your mother's position?”
“ Because of your cruelty, i lost everything that mattered to me.” Kael said coldly, hatred and sorrow colliding in his gaze.
His words hadn't even finished echoing when he drove the blade into her stomach again.
He had waited patiently for this moment, biding his time as he prepared to exact revenge on his sworn enemy.
That was the sole reason he had fought his way into the position of the King's Advisor.
And as fate would have it, Ivy fell in love with him at first sight, making his plan effortless.
He had been waiting for this day, swallowing the repulsion he felt toward his sister's murderer.
Faking his feelings, his loyalty, and even his friendship… everything just to earn the siblings trust.
He had gathered his forces in silence, preparing for this very moment, just for it to be a sure victory.
Kael understood that brute force would never be enough to defeat Ivy. He knew that the only way to defeat Ivy was to divert her attention.
To lower her guards and strike when she least expected it.
He needed her distracted, vulnerable and unguarded.
So he had agreed to ‘marry’ her, confident that the joy of finally belonging to him in marriage, would weakened her vigilance and leave her defenseless, giving him the opening he needed.
“ You…” Ivy whispered.
Blood dripped from the corner of her lips, staining her wedding gown a deeper crimson as another wave of searing pain tore through her.
“ Do you hate me…that much?” She asked softly, her voice barely a whisper, fragile and shattered, disbelief trembling in her voice.
Looking at Kael, she saw a volcano of hatred blazing in his eyes.
So he had been bottling all this hatred inside him, she thought.
Ha…what a cruel joke fate was playing on them!
“ I hate you, Ivy Laurent,” he said coldly.“ I hate everything that has anything to do with you. I regret ever knowing you.”
Kael's lips curled into a cruel smile as his voice dropped lower.
“ I will destroy everything you hold dear – your kingdom, your reputation, The Valestria family, your precious older brother… everything ”
His eyes burned with hatred and madness.“ That will be your retribution for killing my sister with her unborn child.”
He leaned closer, his voice a venomous whisper like a devil, “ And i will make you suffer the agony of watching your loves one die before your eyes.”
“ Kael…did you ever love me?” Ivy asked softly, her fingers lifting to show the smallest space between them.“ Even just a little?”
“ Never.” His voice was cold and final, his clenched fist the only sign of the emotions he forced down.
“ Hahahaha…” Ivy laughed softly, tears slipping down her cheeks.
So he had never…not even once…loved her.
It hurts…
So…this is it.
“ You're free, Kael.” Ivy whispered, her voice trembling with the weight of heartbreak and finality.
With her spine held straight, despite her injuries and her heart already broken beyond repair, she walked away towards the palace hall, toward the place where her older brother might already be facing death.
