Chapter 2

1922 Words
Avi's POV I carefully walked down the stairs, making sure I was silent so as not to wake anyone up. Walking past the great room, I headed to the kitchen, which was empty, as usual. I collected all the ingredients and other stuff I required for breakfast and set them on the counter. Without delay, I started whipping up breakfast for the pack. For the people who tortured me, they are quite stupid. Who in their right mind would trust their 'slave' enough to let them do most of the cooking? I mean, I could poison their food if I wanted to, and it would be too late when they figured it out. I probably would have done that if I still had the defiance and urge to fight back in me. But that part of me was dead, and it was not coming back any time soon. So lost in thought, I didn't realize that I was no longer alone in the room. I blamed that on not having a wolf to sense people's presence. The click of the door brought my attention back to the present. I ignored the person in the room, and continued with my work. Knowing that if I dared speak, it wouldn't end well for me. "You sure look good for an Omega," said Austin. I remained silent, having no response. I knew he wouldn't leave me without some more bruises, whether I responded or not. "Are you ignoring me or do your poor little ears not work anymore?" he asked. I could see the cruel smirk on his face, even though my back faced him. I knew what he was doing. But he wouldn't get a reaction from me. He was taunting me as bait, reminding me that I still had no wolf despite being 17. Deep inside, it hurt, but I could convey no emotion. I thought he knew that by now, but apparently he didn't. He was too thick-headed to see things as they were. Often blinded by his emotions. "Now that's no way to treat your Alpha. Is it?" I could hear anger seeping in his voice, and I knew what was coming. I remained silent, waiting for his next move. As predicted, he moved to where I was and grabbed my arm, roughly turning me to face him. His eyes were changing from brown to black, meaning his wolf was surfacing. Anger was evident on his face. You would think that I would be scared shitless, or I would cower away from him, but I did neither. His grip on my arm tightened as he tried to get even a wince from me, but I didn't move. I couldn't, I was so used to the pain and hurting that it became a part of me. I became a void. Taking it all in, but giving nothing in return. It made me look like I was unaffected. But deep inside, it was all a never-ending, agonizing hell. The only things I felt, were pain, sadness, and darkness. Nothing else. Though none of it showed. They had made me this way. They had taken away my ability to feel anything else. And nothing could change that. Getting no reaction from me angered him even more, and I braced myself for the blow that would surely come. Just as expected, he landed a punch on my stomach, sending me crashing into the hard ground. I coughed out blood as pain ran through my body. My unhealed injuries started bleeding again as he hit me over and over with his foot, creating new bruises. I curled up on the floor, letting the pain consume me whole. When he was satisfied, he spat on me and walked out of the kitchen, his face full of disgust. I tried to sit up shakily, and examine my wounds. Memories of the first time it all began flashed through my mind. I was only nine. They had all ganged up on me and hurt me in all the ways they possibly could. I was just a child, but that didn't matter to them. Tears threatened to pour at the thought. But I was beyond crying. I quickly composed myself, assessing the damage he had done. I had a few broken ribs and multiple bleeding cuts. I still didn't understand how I was still alive. I healed a bit better than a human, which was very slow compared to how werewolves heal. I carefully got up, trying my best not to hurt myself even more. I just had a few more dishes to cook and I would be done. Getting back to work, I ignored the pain I felt, and focused on what I had to do. By the time I was done, the other Omegas walked in the kitchen, busying themselves. Even they saw me as trash. Occasionally, they shot disgusted glances at me. Some even whispered to each other in hushed tones mocking me. I excused myself, and went to my room to clean up. I could hear the noise of the pack members waking up. Picking up my first aid kit, I walked to the shower and started cleaning up. Good thing I did not require stitches this time, because they would be ripped off even before the day ended. I changed into cleaner clothes and took the dirty ones to the laundry. This was basically how most of my mornings went. On good days, I'd have the morning all to myself with no beatings. On bad days, Daniel and Austin gave me a good morning workout. If you know what I mean. I sighed, rubbing my head. Any more beatings today and I would have to deal with a very bad headache. It was just sheer luck that I had recently stocked up on painkillers. Yes, yes, it was a bit weird, but in my position I basically survived off them. Not that I had any other option. I took out my now clean clothes and headed to my room. It was now 7.15AM, so I had 15 more minutes to myself, before I had to go clear the dining table. I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling as I listened to some music, using my old headphones. Breathing felt a little bit painful, since I had broken some ribs. After a while, I headed to the dining room and started clearing the table with a few other Omegas. When I was done, I picked up my backpack and phone, and started my walk to school. I really liked walking. It felt peaceful, like a little break from my life. It gave me some sort of escape. The only downside to it were the glares sent my way and the occasional memories that haunted me. Though I was already used to them. It was nothing new. I arrived at school just before the bell rang and headed to my first class. Austin and Stacy were seniors, 2 years above me. They were fraternal twins. But since I was really smart, I had been moved up two classes. So I ended up being in senior year too, but with a different class schedule, so we barely crossed paths. If we did, it was outside classes. In class my mind kept on drifting to my nightmare. I had never understood what mom wanted to tell me. Her last words kept ringing in my mind. 'You are p....' What was I? Poison? Problematic? Picky? Whatever it was, I wanted to find out so badly, it was eating away at me. Bit by bit. I was brought back to reality when I heard someone calling my name. Looking around, I noticed all eyes were on me. Amusement clear in most of them while others just stared at me with mocking looks. I realized it was Mr. Naaman calling me. "Pardon?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I knew he heard me since it was a werewolf school. "If you do not concentrate on my class, I myself will report you to the Alpha, and you do not want that. Do you?" "No sir," I said, my eyes downcast. "Well, then let us carry on class," he said, going on with the lesson. The rest of the day went by pretty smoothly. Which had me wondering what was going on. Normally, Austin and his group of wannabes would humiliate me, beat me up in abandoned places, or even pull a prank on me, but I hadn't seen them for most of the day. And when I did, they just ignored me. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the fact that I had had a normal day without their disturbance, but something seemed off. I just felt it. Come on, not even one rude comment from them? Something was definitely up. I got into the last class of the day, and settled down. I read through some short notes I had before the teacher came in. The lesson started, and I focused on what was being explained, writing some more short notes. A few minutes into the lesson, the school secretary walked in, disrupting the lesson. "Aviana Fleur, pack up and follow me," she said, walking out without another word. I looked around confused before hesitantly packing my things and walking out hurriedly, trying to catch up with her. When we got to her desk, she told me the principal was waiting for me in his office, and got back to her work. I didn't like the sound of that. Something was off, I just couldn't tell what it was. Hesitantly knocking on the principal's door, I heard a small 'come in' before I got in and closed the door behind me. "Take a seat, Aviana, "said Mr. Laurence, pointing at the chair across his. I took a seat, trying to figure out what was going on. "Aviana, you have been reported by Austin for pranking Miss Jane for the third time this semester. I personally didn't expect you to be behind all these pranks, but there is proof," he dropped the bomb. Oh, no he didn't. 'That...motherf...piece of.... Aaaaaarrrgghhh'. All the pieces fell into place after that. This was what they had been planning on. I didn't even want to see the evidence. I knew him well enough to know he had Mr. Laurence wrapped around his finger. And he would be Alpha of the pack in a few weeks, so Mr. Laurence had to obey him. There was no way out of this. "As punishment, you will be suspended for a week. This is your last warning, Aviana. Next time there will be no going back. Do you understand?" No! Not a suspension! Anything but that. "Yes, Mr. Laurence," I said, trying to keep my anger at bay. "You may leave," without another word, I walked out of his office, gripping my backpack. Anger seethed through me. Suspension, for me, didn't mean a week free from all school work. No, no, no...it meant a week full of torture, chained in the dungeons. Austin knew the memories I had of that place. He knew that was where it all began. Knew that that was where my world had come crashing down on me. Where the shell I had become was birthed. I knew what he was doing, seeking his revenge. He wanted to get a reaction from me. Something in me snapped. Oh, I was going to give him one. Just not the one he expected.
