CHAPTER FIVE

THE WARNING Some secrets whisper while others scream. But the most dangerous ones… arrive quietly as warnings you don't understand until it's too late. The storage room suddenly felt too small and quiet. I stood there staring at my phone while the message glowed against the dark screen. “You're already too deep in the story.” My fingers hovered above the keyboard. Who was sending these messages? Someone on set or someone watching me? Another message appeared while my heart stopped for a moment when I read it. “Leave the set before it is too late.” A cold chill spread down my spine. Leave? I had just gotten the biggest role of my life, the role every actress in Los Angeles dreamed about. Why would anyone just warn me to walk away from it? Footsteps echoed in the hallway outside the storage room while I quickly locked my phone and slid it into my pocket. Director Alex walked in again. “You're missing rehearsal.” “Sorry,” I whispered. “Come on, everyone is waiting,” he said calmly. I followed him back down the hallway but my mind was filled with questions. The soundstage looked exactly the same when we returned. Lights blazing. Cameras ready. Crew members moving quickly. Actors rehearsing lines. But now,.everything felt different like I had accidentally stepped behind the illusion and seen something I wasn't meant to. Olivia rushed toward us. “There you are, she said, we are ready to shoot scene 8.” Director Alex nodded once. “Let's begin.” I stepped back onto the set trying to focus on the script acting like nothing had changed but deep down, something had changed and I could not stop thinking of the missing actress, Emily Wilson. “Quiet on set,” Olivia shouted. The room fell silent again. Cameras rolled and lights flared brighter. “Action,” Director Alex said. The scene began and Daniel walked toward me his character furious. “You lied to everyone.” I delivered my line exactly as the script demanded. “Sometimes, lies are the only way to survive.” The words felt strange leaving my mouth but they felt heavier and deeper like something personal. He continued the scene with tension built and emotions stronger. But suddenly… A loud c***k echoed from above the set. Everyone froze. A heavy lighting fixture swung violently from the ceiling with its metal chain raffled loudly. “Watch out!” someone shouted. The massive light dropped falling directly toward the spot where I had been standing some seconds eariler. But Director Alex moved faster than anyone else. He grabbed my arm and pulled me backward. The lighting fixture slammed onto the floor exploding in sparks and shattered glass. Silence filled the entire studio. My heart pounded wildy in my chest while I stared at the broken equipment on the floor trying to process what just happened. Director Alex slowly released my arm. “Are you hurt?” he asked. “No,” I whispered. Crew members rushed toward the fallen light examining the broken chain. “That shouldn't have happened,” the lighting technician said nervously. “The rigging was secure.” Director Alex's expression darkened slightly. “Check it again.” The technician nodded quickly. Meanwhile, whispers spread across the set. Actors talking quietly. Crew members exchanging uneasy looks. Because accidents like that don't just happen on a professional set. A big and well known one at that. This doesn't look like an accident, but an actual warning to me. Olivia approached cautiously. “Maybe we should take a break,” she suggested. Director Alex shook his head. “No.” He looked at me. “Can you continue?” My pulse racing but something inside me refused to back down. “Yes,” I said. He nodded once. But as the crew reset the equipment, I felt my phone vibrate again. Another message. I opened it slowly as my stomach twisted the moment I read the words. “This wasn't an accident.” My hands started to tremble when another message appeared seconds later. “They are testing you.” My heart began pounding again. Testing me? Who was testing me? Across the set, Director Alex was watching me again but this time, his expression was concerned. Almost like he suspected something was wrong. Olivia called again. “Reset for scene 8.” Everyone returned to their positions. But now, the atmosphere on set has changed. The earlier excitement was gone and now replaced by quiet tension because everyone knew what had almost happened. Director Alex stepped closer to me again lowering his voice. “That light almost killed you.” “I know.” His eyes searched my face carefully. “Do you want to stop for today?” For a moment, the idea was tempting. Very tempting. But the mysterious messages echoed softly in my mind. “Leave the set before it's too late.” If someone wanted me gone… walking away now would give them exactly what they wanted. So I shook my head vehemently. “No.” His eyebrow lifted slightly. “Are you sure?” “Yes.” Something almost like respect flickered in his expression. “Alright,” he said quietly. Then he stepped back toward the monitor. “Let's roll again.” The cameras started. The lights returned. The scene resumed. But now, something new had entered the story. Fear. Real fear. Because the accident didn't feel random anymore. It felt like a warning. And the messages on my phone made it even clearer. Someone on this set didn't want me here. Someone was watching me. Testing me. Waiting to see if I would run. But they didn't understand something about me yet. I had spent years fighting to survive in this industry. Years facing rejection. Years chasing this dream. I wasn't going to run now. Not when the truth was starting to reveal itself. Because if Emily Wilson, the missi had discovered something dangerous… Then this movie wasn't just a movie. It was the center of something much bigger. A secret hidden deep inside Hollywood. A secret powerful enough to make people disappear. A secret powerful enough to cause accidents and instant death without people taking note. And now… I was standing directly in the middle of it. Behind the cameras. Behind the script. Behind the illusion. Hidden quietly… Behind Closed Sets.
