Part Fifteen

Eva's POV

Azzy continued sobbing in my arms as I tried my best to console her. She was still shaken and trembling and Quince seemed oblivious to it all. He was looking out the window of the car mindlessly.

How was he so calm after putting my sister's life at stake! Was he really that shallow and inconsiderate!

"I think it's about time you tell me about this 'feud' between you and Linos", I told him and he turned to me with creased eyebrows. But I could tell he was still unbothered.

"Eva, you know I can't tell you..."

"Yes you can!", I cut him of furiously, "You put my sister's life at stake! She could have died Quince! But you don't even care, do you?!"

"Eva, that's not true!" he tried to defend.

"Then explain to me what my sister and I have unknowingly gotten ourselves into!" I pressed on. I would rest until I got my answer. If I was putting my sister at stake here, I wanted to at least know why!

Quince was quiet for a few minutes before he breathed out a reluctant sigh and looked into my eyes. Pleading to me to just be patient, but I was fed up of being patient!

"I want to know now, or else you can drop Azzy and I off at my office and retrieve the snail yourself!" I stated firmly. I was done being nice. I almost lost my sister! I wasn't planning on letting that happen again. This man, gang leader or not, is going to tell me everything, or I would live up to my promise.

Quince averted his gaze and his eyes coated over as though he was in deep thought. After a while, he finally returned his gaze to mines before breathing out a reluctant sigh.

"My grandfather had two kids, my father and his older brother. My grandfather was the leader of the gang and as tradition would have it, the eldest would inherit it. But one day my grandfather caught his oldest son, my uncle, using the gang for his own personal benefit. He immediately gave it to my father, his youngest son. But my uncle wasn't all to pleased about that and killed her as soon as my brother was born. My grandfather and father were shocked to say the least. They never thought he'd revert to that.
